Interestingly, this would represent yet another instance of Sheogorath screwing over another Daedric prince. Just like the stories of him defeating Hircine and Boethiah, Sheogorath beat Nocturnal at her own game; thievery and distraction. You, the player, are a 'distraction' or a 'disguise' of sorts before mantling Sheogorath; you are the perfect entity to steal from the Mistress of Shadows because you don't even know you're Sheogorath yet. It's also absolutely befitting of his general method; he steal from Nocturnal by doing nothing. But it is him doing it, because you are him. Gods, am I right?

I find it fitting that the Gray Cowl eventually finds it's way to the New Sheogorath, whose rule include those who are suffering from Dementia

This video is sorta broken by the creation club being that you can get the cowl now with some story added on and it is given to you by another.

but does a single person get to keep the artefacts forever? it hought they just disappeared back into their respective planes of oblivion after a couple years? or perhaps the hero of kvatch gave it to another hero.

There is some problems with this theory the biggest being during the shivering isles quest line you are told by both sheogorath and haskill that you will always be human and never turn to a deadra . The other problem is more the reason that Bethesda wouldn't do this and that is choice there is nothing that says the player actually ever became the grey fox, same with the head of fighters, the listener, arch mage, sheogorath or a knight of the nine, . Really if you become a member of the fighters guild or knight of the nine it is harder to complete the infamy quest ( brotherhood, thieves) . It is also difficult to complete the mages guild and thieves together why because the thieves requires theft from mages which will get you kicked out of the mages. Ofcoarse it is all possible but it is also an assumption that it all happened

Side quests or questlines are not canon, they are more of what if scenario if a protagonist chose to go down that path. His role as deadric prince is not affected weather or not he has cowl or not.
