So basically if I need to replace my battery I need to perform surgery on my phone... Thanks Samsung.

OK, got that done. This afternoon I'm planning to bring peace to the Middle East.

I see what they've done here. Purposely made it darn near impossible to replace the battery so you won't bother, and are forced to get a new phone

It's times like this I really miss the old phones with the back panel you'd just lift off and pop out the battery. Ok, how much would this cost to have someone that knows how to do it?

The thing about not making the battery easily replaceable is that ALL batteries degrade over time (a year or 2), some quicker than others depending on how often you charge it and use it. This sucks for people who like to hold on to the same phone for 3-5 years before buying a new one. If you're someone who is constantly paying to upgrade to a new model, it's not as big of a deal. Since I've never dropped ANY of my phones in water and most phones can handle water being splashed on them, I would much rather just have a phone with a removable back panel than a waterproof phone.

I just replaced my battery in my S8 using their kit. Its all pretty easy besides getting the glass back off, kind of a pain to get the tiny connectors back connected but not to bad. Just a heads up be very careful prying the back off and be prepared to spend 75% of the time of the project on it. I replaced mine due to swelling, which itself made getting my back off easier but still a pain. Their IOpener works ok but a heat gun/hair dryer works way better.

I honestly thought she was joking when she was pulling out all those tools. Really sad it’s that much of a process to change a battery.

This is such a joke. My old phone had a panel that popped off then you unplugged the existing battery and then plugged back in the new one and closed the access plate. Done! I see where Samsung, an most likely all phone companies, want you to just buy a new phone. How awful is that? It is like buying a car and when you run out of gas you need to buy a new one as there is no way to access the fuel tank?

This is why I still have my Samsung Galaxy s5. If the battery fails, I just snap in a new one. It has EVERYTHING I need and the newer phones are just expensive eye-candy.

S9 and S9+ has a glass backing that breaks EXTREMELY easy. The needed 170F to 212F is frustratingly difficult to maintain while attempting battery removal. Too hot to touch. Precision handling is worse wearing gloves. The adhesive is way stronger than these videos demonstrate. Even with removal kit, a hard focus and patience, I ended up breaking the glass. Samsung has designed this phone to break easily if handled wrong.

I will never buy another phone without access to the battery pack, this is rediculous. The days of the closed architecture needs to come to an end.

Do you have to reapply the adhesive? Where can it be purchased?

Why would you buy that heated mat when you can just heat the phone in the microwave

They don't want us to hold on to our old phones Not being able to replace the battery is their way of screwing us.
