As someone who’s been installing actual Chrome OS and making them run on Windows laptops for years either through Project Croissant or the Chromify script from 2013, this is really a pleasant surprise and I’m hella glad Google Finally released this after so many years of locking Chrome OS on official hardware.

Nice that Google finally did what Linux users have been doing for literally decades...resurrecting old computers with great, lean Linux OS's.

Not nice that they're presenting like they're the first ones to think of it.

This is awesome. Microsoft should really improve the windows experience for such budget laptops. Can't believe Asus launched a laptop that lags so much out of the box.

I am glad Google is embracing more of Chrome OS's roots i.e. Gentoo Linux. They brought back the live boot environment, Linux app support and the ability to install it on a wide range of hardware. Masterful move from Google. I regularly use Linux, and as sad is it is to admit, it is unlikely to be the OS that rivals Microsoft's desktop OS dominance. Chrome OS has already overtaken macOS as the second largest desktop OS by market share, and with this move, they are likely to take more of the market from Microsoft.

I took the leap and installed it on a 10 year old laptop. I don't think it ever ran this well with Windows. There are some bugs here and there, but overall, the experience has been positive.

for a non-power user chromeos is just perfect, microsoft ditching older hardware for w11 and google releasing chrome os flex makes perfect sense

My friend,
Your video pushed me to install Chrome OS Flex in a new stick PC I recently purchased. The device came without a Windows license and I didn't want to buy one, and it performed EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, way better than the previous Win 10 version. Thanks for the informative video. and greetins from Brazil! (I susbcribed to your channel too!)

Its really impressive how well that runs on the laptop hardware. Could bring new life to older desktops too. I can see why schools like chrome os

You HAVE to use the linux support to install zoom, because the zoom chromeos has cannot use group functions, and many other things are lacking

I have a very old Sony Vaio which originally came with Windows Vista. I installed Win 10 on it, and it ran, but pretty slow as you'd expect. Yesterday I put Chrome OS Flex on to it and it's now usable. Flex runs smoothly. So far I haven't installed any Chrome web apps, just used Chrome, Gmail, Docs etc which come with the system.

Personally I think this idea is great! I had a Chromebook about 2 months ago but it sadly got a cracked screen making it not usable. I have now switched back to a windows laptop and have noticed a major battery difference. My windows laptop had battery that didn't last very long but my Chromebook had amazing battery life. I will definitely get chrome os onto my old laptops which have even worse battery life. I personally didn't know this was possible and am very grateful that you showed this. I will definitely do this to my old windows laptops!

I have a laptop that multiboots Windows 11, ChromeOS, and Ubuntu. Windows for the most use cases, ChromeOS when I need battery life and want it to run cool, and Ubuntu because I can. It has been a great experience, and I highly recommend it if you have the technical knowledge and storage space to pull it off.

This is great! Thanks for sharing. Although in my experience, Linux Mint can be a genuine powerful second life upgrade for older laptops.
