Why was Darth Vader absolutely TERRIFIED after killing Obi Wan Kenobi?

And you would think that Vader would feel a sense of relief or satisfaction after ending his former master but it was actually the complete opposite!

Now this information comes from the book A Certain Point of View.

And you see, as soon as Obi Wan vanished into thin air becoming one with the Force, Vader was actually completely confused as to what just happened!

He wasn’t sure if it was Obi Wan playing a trick on him or if it was just some new Force ability that he’d never seen before!

But after some time to think it over and come to his senses, Vader knew that his old Master was definitely dead.

But after realizing that Obi-Wan was no longer around, Vader felt really lonely and overwhelmed with sadness cuz the last link to his old life was now gone.

I like how Vader prodded the robes with his foot, just in case Obi Wan somehow managed to shrink himself.

I was never convinced that anyone killed Obi Wan. Obi Wan fulfilled his destiny and joined the force. It is just like how nobody killed Yoda or Luke Skywalker. They fulfilled their destinies and became one with the force.

This is so sad. The familial attachment he had to obi wan was so strong that once his hate for him at been quenched, he was left with no cloud of hate to obscure his brotherly bond and love for obi wan.

Obi wan knew exactly what he was doing. By leaving, he made Vader feel lonely and empty thereby leaving room for Vader to try to connect with Luke which eventually led to him reigniting love in his heart.

So does that make part of good side of Anakin within Vader actually resurfaced upon the realization that obi wan was really dead and consciously he felt guilty besides terrified?

That does make sense and was probably the first step in his redemption arc. Even if he did eventually feel bad for killing Obi Wan Kenobi, but probably still willing to stay in the dark side since he was still unaware Padme’s babies were born. He felt like he had nothing to live for. Until Luke came into his life, Vader started to have second thoughts.
