Reigen: "It was a lie."

This is one of Reigen's special attacks where he finally tells Mob the truth.

Reigen attacked us with his newest speical move: The tear-jerker cutting oninos move.

I know a lot of people are confused; “didn’t mob already know?” I was in the same boat until I thought about it for a bit.
I don’t think mob’s shock comes from the fact that Reigen doesn’t have any psychic powers, it comes from the fact that he admitted it truthfully to him. Reigen heartfully admitted his faults and “other side” of him.

The fact that he did that *for* mob, throwing away the whole facade, is huge

Edit: We also have to remember, the “mob” we know isn’t in control. It’s the jaded part of him that sat on the sidelines this whole time

Reigen’s voice actor done an amazing job this episode when he was delivering those lines

I love the fact that this episode was titled "confession" which normally you would think it's Mob's love confessions to Tsubomi-chan. Instead, it's actually Reigan telling mob the truth about everything. Telling Mob that he also has a side of himself that he hates but accepts as himself and that advice helps Mob to finally move past himself rejecting his emotions and both him and his powers accepting each other finally making Kageyama Shigeo whole again.

This scene is less about mob realizing that reigen was lying the entire time- he’d already suspected that for a while. It’s about feeling like reigen was using him and valued him for his powers instead of as a person. Reigen admitting he’s a fraud is showing that ultimately, he cares about Mob’s wellbeing over his usefulness

I read somewhere that taking off your shoes is a common in Japanese suicide, so it was added symbolism that reigen was ready to risk his life to save mob from himself. This scene hits so much harder after learning that

I love that Reigen finally stopped lying and made this grand confession, then immediately lies again about something as dumb as why he’s crying (“oh, my allergies”)

I see a few people confused about Dimple, here is the thing:

Spirits only fully disappear once they achieve what some call "second death" which is when no one else remembers you, therefore you lose the connection you once had to earth, so it makes total sense that Dimple would be able to return considering Mob never forgot him.

I love how he still calls him Master even after this. It just proves Reigen was never his master for psychic powers, but his master for being a good guy and true friend. 😌

For those wondering. This is what ???% actually looks like without his aura. We've seen glimpses of him during the fight with teru, the house fire and mogami, but he's always covering himself with an eerie aura. He finally showed himself to reigan, and its kinda unsettling because it looks like a mob, but it's not him.

even if mob already knew that reigen was a fraud, the fact that he never outwardly admitted it to him was one of the reasons why his “other side” grew stronger. he was fed off the little moments in which reigen offended mob, paid him little, disregarded his feelings and all of the other little things that made him question if he did truly care about him, things he felt deep inside but would ignore because of the fear of letting it go for a moment and hurting someone. that’s why this moment causes such a change. once reigen admits it, the way mob truly viewed him deep inside just falls apart, as what reigen does completely goes against what he was convinced he would do once he saw the real him: get scared and run away

You don’t need superpowers to be a bro when it counts. That’s Reigen’s real superpower. He got it from Mob. Or rather that power awoken BECAUSE of Mob.

Reigen is the reverse one punch man. He's so normal.

Reigen is my favorite character in the show. His character arc in season 2 always makes me tear up, and this is another fantastic moment. I love how the show ends showing everyone who Reigen helped wishing him a happy birthday. It shows how much good he's done for the people in his life despite being a fraud for so long, and that he no longer needs to rely on that fantasy.

Reigen literally almost died and abandons his dream telling mob the truth because that's how much he cares...

The "main" characters had all a striking impact to bring back Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama:
1) Teruki "The Rival" awoke "Mob" first
2) Ritsu "The Brother" had "Mob" find ??? = "Shigeo" deep down himself
3) Dimple "The Friend" effectively stopped "Shigeo" in his rampage for the first time, and even if it's for a sec, it allowed "Shigeo" to finally pay attention to Reigen despite having "Mob" disappeared
4) Reigen "The Master" opened "Shigeo" to his (or should I say their) own true self, to have "Mob" back and accept "Shigeo", for the two to become a 100% Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama, that is to say to become (or go back to) what he was always meant to be: himself

I have no word to express how wonderful this (and all the show and this last season) has been made, and how such a show with such a finale had such a striking impact on me as well. I have to repeat it: this truly IS a Masterpiece, and I'm glad I had the chance to find it and experience it
