The genius of this scene....watch his confidence grow as he reveals his true self..

I love the way Cash looks to the guitarist for help, and the guitarist just nails it. Great scene.

It's often overlooked in this scene how good the producer's acting is.

He’s must’ve heard “Joaquin the line” about a trillion times during filming

He should've won that oscar for sure

"But, I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die."

It was at that lyric, at eight years old, I became a Johnny Cash fan.

I like when the lead guitarist said we've never played this song and just by instinct and talent played a great riff.

The look Joaquin gives to Perkins like "I hope you got a solo in there somewhere" is astounding. What a fantastic movie.

One of my favourite movie scenes ever, the camera slowly panning out as he grows in confidence. Some of the best acting I've ever seen

The look of desperationj when he stares at the other guitar player like "dude please do a solo, anything" and then the face of relief when he plays it like the song was always composed like that

He should’ve won an Oscar for this role.

I like how at 1:06, you can see the guitarist tell the bassist that the key of the song is in "E"

“JR, We ain’t never heard that song”

*plays the hell out of his guitar*

The emotions he is able to portray is insane

The brilliant awkwardness of having the guitar solo come in half a bar late.

1:04 when he rears his head back saying "don't ever play with guns" he does that one eyelid sinking cock-eyed look and actually is Johnny Cash. Surreal. One of the greatest performances of all time

Between this and Joker, Joaquin is a true Hollywood gem.

This man didn’t need an Oscar to be appreciated, but man am I not so happy for Joaquin. A true genuine soul who knows what loss & hurt is, and you can feel it in his acting. God bless you sir

I think what makes him a great actor is that he can bring intensity, volunerabilty and a dash of madness into a scene beautifullly. The only othe actor that I know that could do that was Brando.

As a musician myself, I love the attention to detail with the guitarist and bassist in the background. The way they slowly pick up on the song, with the guitarist listening carefully to Johnny's playing for key changes and mouthing them to the bassist is spot on.
