11 Secrets Royal Guards Don't Want You To Know

The Queen's guards are required to follow the protocol even if they are about to faint. Boy, do they faint! Imagine yourself wearing a thick black fur hat and wearing heavy wool clothes in the middle of the summer. Naturally, even those who are well-prepared often find it difficult to handle such a task. However, there is a certain way in which a guard must faint according to the protocol. He must maintain his posture of attention even if he experiences dizziness and must do so even if he falls, most frequently landing face down. This is known as "to faint to attention," which is why you won't witness a guard who has fallen on the ground, crumpled into a heap.

Dealing with ignorant tourists would be the hardest part of the job as far as I'm concerned

you 'bull' your boots every time you take them off, not just after being out in the sun, as after wearing them a locker inspection will follow

4:51 ... The hat strap isn't beneath the guard's nose!!! It's resting on the chin, just below the lower lip.

Different regiments have the honour of Kings guards and it changes quite often for April 2023 it is the Irish Guards regiment. Please remember and respect that these are active soldiers doing duties which are only ceremonial otherwise they may be on operational service oversea's

You need to do a bit of research into the colours worn by the King's Guards. There are a number of regiments that do the job. On certain days troops from the Commonwealth do a "tour". Mainly it is the Grenadiers (Red) and the Irish Guards (Grey)
Nothing to do with the time of year.

The most challenging is LOUD, RUDE, INTRUSIVE, TOUCHY-FEELY PEOPLE WHO INSIST IN INVADING PERSONAL SPACE OF HORSES AND GUARDS.

Would any American make fun of the guard at Arlington Cemetary? Then don't do it to other guards anywhere else!
They don't get fined $260 because they are in the UK and they use £.

What is the age group for the life of the guard? They all appear to be under 30 years old. Must respect their way, they put up with a lot from the tourists who some seem to not know boundaries. This is their job and not a play ground for tourists ....

I totally respect the guards and think the tourists who visit should as well, I think the hard part for me would be the bathroom issue but also the heat and passing out in such warm uniforms

One thing a lot of tourists mistake is the fact they are actually operational soldiers in the British Army and have served in conflict zones all over the world for 100's of years, a friends dad was a Regimental Sgt Major in the one of the Guards Regiments and a lot of tourists think they are just a tourist attraction
