Does training heavy bows (160+ lbs) give you super strength?

Doing some archery training and grappling training with one of my friends in an attempt to show the differences between functional / raw strength and specific custom strength for a task. This was a fun video if for nothing else it felt great to get on the mat again after a many year hiatus, super rusty but loads of fun. Also extra special thanks to my buddy Corbin for giving it a go and letting me use his gym and mat

Attempting the bow 0:00 - 1:54
Grappling fun time 1:55 - 5:04
Breakdown 5:06 - 6:28
Attempt 2 6:30

Oh Wow you couldbasically roll out of any hold. And the way you pull that bow back as you bring it down is Awesome

It's about muscle fiber recruitment. Mind muscle connection. And I was wondering when the watch was getting ripped off! LOL Great stuff man!

same with fencing, I am 182cm, 60kg, very skinny, but practice military saber and other weapons for 2 years, and I can handle the weapons for so much longer than untrained people. :D Its funny how much experience outweights reaction and strength

Excellent video!
Breaking down that posture, position, and structure. I'm sure Khabib N could gives us all some useful tips.

It is noticeable during wrestling that grip with your right arm is more firm and more secured. I actually rewatched to double check, it is as if right arm has more security and ''patience'' for a grip, if that makes sense. Better stats, so to say.

So right about motion, or form. Any bow over 60lb if your form isnt right you can course some pretty bad injuries, and some you wont notice until months later. Thats why we always start with a 15lb bow, just to get the movement right without worrying about strugling with the bow. I can comfortably use a 60 to 80lb bow, over that i would be pushing it, even an 80 i wouldnt be putting much inns at all. So for me just target shooting i go 45lb, i can then get about an hour in without fatigue. Archery is so misunderstood and i understand why.

Great video BTW. Unrelated to this one but I'm curious where you sourced your slings from or if you made them?

I wrestled some mates of mine just yesterday and I didn't know how strong I am haha I threw them around easily and they all train all the time while I'm all natural couch potato haha. My little knowledge of aikido and alot of UFC watching has helped me use my strength really well when it comes to wresting

first! your so strong I wish I was as strong as you. I am not as strong to shoot a war bow I have only shot a sling and a few guns
edit: i suck at pull ups

Nice video. I also do Brazilian jiu-jitsu. How long have you been doing it for? Also do you know any other martial arts?

What would happen to that warbow if you released it without an arrow?

Moving in a month, and I'll be within jogging distance of Feenix BJJ. I'll be back on the mat soon!
