Most places that have large cat fishing this is common over night lines, usually has a time limit buts its like 12+ hours

I did that once with 200# mono and a giant bluegill but 8 feet past the shore. 30 min later I hear " ting tinng tinnng" and noticed the line was extremely tight. I touched it and it snapped with no water swirl or anything. The next day I saw a 12 foot gator laying on the bank where I had been fishing.

Nice catch dude, be careful tho. A lot of states require indicators, time limits or even fishing license and identification tags on tied lines for safety and making sure the lines don't get forgotten. 😅

In my state of ND, you can't leave a fishing line unattended for more than an hour. Its assumed if you catch a fish, it should be removed otherwise it'll bleed the fish

Ive been filling the fridge this way for years. I use braided line and the rubber coated electric fence post for my shoreline poles. If you want to catch mainly bigger fish 10+lbs, keep the belly section with the skin on both sides and use a chunk of those scraps as bait. 48lber was the biggest one i caught last year

We do this for dinner on the weekends, put out about 15, and check em every 4 or 5 hours. By the time you get em all back in, you got a mess of fish to fry.

Grew up on a major US river. Every time I did that 95% of the time, I caught a fish that was about the size of the bait.
