I love this song, because to me it goes beyond the traditions and heritage of pacific islanders. I am from the Philippines, but surrounded by mountains- but my love for the sea is undying. This song however, should be seen beyond that- it is not just about pacific islanders, IT IS FOR EVERYONE WHO HAVE THEIR OWN VOYAGES. Everyone goes on their personal journeys, think about it- life, work, knowledge, experience, and love- these are all our own voyages. But we should always "know the way" back to where we started, so we find WHO WE ARE. We don't name every star, but we remember every lesson we learn in life. This song is for everyone.

My great grandmother was raised in the Philippines and how my grandmother was raised in Hawaii. I grew very fond of hearing stories from my grandmother who told about her life on the island and how she lived her ways (yes she was VERY much like Moana's grandmother in many ways) to us grandkids. I loved my grandmother so much (she died of Alzheimer's in 2014) and seeing this movie and the bond Mona had with her grandmother gets to me EVERY time. I am proud to be who I am and the ways my grandmother taught me and to love my island culture. <3 Thanks to Disney's Moana, I can hold a very special Disney movie that really hit close to home in my life.

I finally realized that when you hear the drum beat in the background, it's the ancestors speaking to Moana, saying "We heard you beat the drum, but you did it wrong. Here's the correct beat." Moana then emulates the version done by the spirits, and activates the message. Brilliant!

As someone from Norwegian decent, the sea brings me joy. It is a long tradition for my family to sail across the ocean. I can't describe how amazing it feels to be in the ocean. Being out there is beautiful. There is peace yet chaos.

I am really just so glad that they made a movie that contributed to the Pacific Islanders, this spreads the culture, and I really love how all the Pacific Islanders are starting to rise up. It's just amazing Us pacific the islanders are amazing

As a person of Chamorro-Carolinian descent, this song just gives me chills to listen to. Especially the beginning part in the native tongue, the sheer amount of emotion and culture blended in the span of two minutes just brings me to tears. Perhaps one day, I shall return to the sea and ride the ocean waves on the canoes of the ancient design, just as my people have for hundreds of years.

The brave islanders tamed the pacific with simple canoes; no armies or armadas needed. Stars were the GPS and human brain was the computer. Nautical navigators passing true science down to generation after the next, setting sails through the colossal waters, landing on tiny islands we can't even find easily on google maps! Hats off to those voyagers, explorers, and pioneers... RESPECT.

This is my favorite singalong song from Moana. I love the polynesian culture and I find it extremely fascinating. As from some that's also decended from sea voyagers this kind of hits close to home while its from a completely different part of the world.
