RTGI Reshade vs Ray Tracing Which is Better? | Elden Ring

Seeing how the new ray tracing update was implemented and received I wanted to make a video comparing all of the other options available to PC players to the ray tracing that was added. In this video I compare ray tracing on and off and compared to RTGI, a global illumination ray tracing available for reshade and my reshade that doesn't utilize either RTGI or ray tracing. Each have their bonuses and each their impact on system performance, hopefully this video can help you choose what is right for your system.

from software should rename the option to ray traced shadows to avoid misunderstandings

thank you for your content

Is it fine to have both ingame RT on and RTGI on? Or will they interfere with each other and bug out?

The reshade has light bounce for all sources and colors? I’m sold!

My hardware is kinda limited, so I am using MXAO from Reshade to emulate the RT feature which I've disabled. It's not flawless but at least it's performance friendly ^^

Question Bro I see a lot of RTGI Reshade in many games, that required ray tracing? or a AMD/gtx card can do it?

problem i always face with RTGI, MXAO and RELIGHT is that the added ambient occlusion is visible in the UI/Menus, like a ghosting effect. I tried to use things like UIDetect to keep the UI from being drawn over but i think that needs more of a deep dive into the renderer, but yeah.. i really Reshaded the heck out of this game and slowly reverting to a more moddest approach and only work with "Lightroom" and "DeHaze" to clean up the image slight and put in more depth by increasing contrast curves etc.

i think u can adjust the shade occlusion strength. to better match raytracing of the gpu

Hey! Do you have an RTGI configuration preset you'd be willing to share?

I feel like Max looks closer to off than to on

I think it's worth mentioning that Elden Ring already has light+color bounce off as it already uses pretty good Global Illumination for it's lighting system, hence why From Software only added RT Shadows & RT ambient occlusion to the game. Using ReShade RTGI in Elden Ring kinda just amplifies that which is already present in the game.

However ReShade RTGI still looks pretty good with ER, so i suppose it's up to preference. The real issue imo is that dayum, the RT Shadows+AO implementation in Elden Ring is flat out busted in terms of performance

Rtgi ambient occlusion parameter is too high.

Could you make the same comparison but using GTA 5?

raytracing looks worse than both??? how odd

edit: nvm there are scenes where it looks better than nothing, but it makes so much less of a difference than I thought it would.

to really grasp the RT you need to find reflective surfaces and keep the camera in motion, plus elden ring RT is actually shadow tracing

RTGI has great lighting but terrible shadows.
Eldon Ring Raytracing has zero lighting but good shadows.

Ofcourse ray tracing as it can has access to every render. Rtgi is limited but can be better if it has access to game drivers.

The differences between all of them are so slight as to be meaningless. Except for the armor bounce I guess.
