High pilot skill for retaining control after the strike. Low pilot skill for hitting the pole.

There was an article about this in AERO News. The wing partially separated from the fuselage, but remained attached long enough for the pilot to land safely. A few spectators suffered minor injuries from falling debris at the location of the crash.

So, everyone came out of this alive, but it certainly could’ve been a lot worse.

this damage is small enough so that the plane will still be able to fly safely but had they been another foot across they might’ve had a bit more trouble bringing it down slowly

I can’t believe that wing bounced halfway back to the original position and didn’t fold up and kill this guy immediately.

This illustrates why there are rules about minimum safe altitudes limits in certain areas.

I'm not a pilot, but I think the idea is to NOT hit things with your airplane.

He (and the crowd) are very lucky, that wing flexes a lot. That aircraft is at least 60 years old.

Could've been curtains for everyone, including those on the ground. Notice how the lattice mast only buckled at the top? If the Chipmunk had been any lower, it'd have been like a hot knife through butter..
