When I passed the CPA exam and showed up at the office next day, my fellow accountants raised their calculators forming an arch for me to walk under, so I get how he must have felt.

The narration doesn‘t provide enough context. Here‘s what happened:
If you‘re interested in becoming a jet pilot for the swiss army there‘s a two step process you have to go through.
The organization that does this process is called „SPHAIR“.
First, you have to go through a computer assessment where they test all sorts of thing (english, maths, geometry and more). If you pass this assessment, you can take part in a two week long course where you learn the basics of flying a small airplane. In these two weeks you‘re gonna do 11 flights.
Some of those who successfully passed the course were invited to take a round flight from Zurich airport that was going to be intercepted by f-18 fighter jets as a training exercise.
Source: I went through this whole SPHAIR process last year and passed but unfortunately wasn‘t invited on the round flight (only a few randomly chosen SPHAIR graduates were).
