Bro that is so much more manoeuvrable than I thought for an aircraft that size

For those who don’t know (lived on an AF base most of my early childhood, father is retired Air Force) the Globemaster’s are very maneuverable and can do crazy things that a plane of its size shouldn’t be able to do. However this one was more than likely carrying just the ops crew and no payload/cargo inside its cargo storage. However with that said these planes also can rapidly descend really quickly in combat situations. They’re also stacked with flares and chaff. Also fun fact. They have a flip down HUD display like their fighter jet cousins and the 787 Dreamliner jets. Super cool tech in these for such an old airframe. We received the first batch of them at Join AFB in Charleston in the early 90’s and my dad was able to have me ride along in one on a taxi run to get them ready to travel across the USA for their demonstration as well as their introduction to service. Best part of the AFB life was seeing these and the c141’s flying around over the base. Every morning at 4:30am you could hear them taking off from there. It also shared with Charleston’s main international airport too so you heard everything flying over the house.

When I first started being an aviation enthusiast, I didn't know what they meant by the slanted wings making that aircraft more manoeuvrable until now

For those of who that don't know.

This is in Brisbane, Australia. This is for Brisbane Riverfire, a fireworks display that signifies the end of Brisbane Festival, which is held every August /September. The RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) are involved for entertainment to show off their warfare aircraft, it's a chance for their pilots/flight crews to let their hair down and have some fun, but also to entertain the crowd 500k. They usually have C-17 Globemasters and other miscellaneous aircraft do the displays in the afternoon daylight. Then to signify the start of the fireworks display, they send out the EA-18G Growlers, which are the main event of all the aircraft.

Just training for the Riverfire event. I had a prime spot on the Brisbane River bank for the 1st one. First ever public drop and burn with the afterburners on an F111 over a major city. Absolutely awesome display.

Engines can be put in reverse and it can rapidly descend 20000 feet .... this for landing/drops in war zones...amazing

People get frightened. However, this jet, and even the ones you go on holiday in are extremely powerful. They are incredibly over engineered and can do amazing things. And pushing them harder only makes it better.
Pretty much how if you drive an F1 car slowly it won't corner, itll slide. So you have to push it so the down force works and pushes the car into the road to give you the grip.
With these and commercial jets if you push it, it will respond well.
Also, those engines are made by Rolls Royce, and if the plane doesn't have cargo it can fly with just 1 engine and if it has cargo it only needs 2.
So when you see these things weaving like a fighter jet just remember how powerful and capable they are

The tallest building at the end on left is 300m tall for a height comparison. Flying that thing at about 100m off land through a city is wild to watch. Was working on about level 15 of a high-rise one year and it was level with us on its first pass through the river

I was flying on a c-17 while they were doing low-levels similar to this the other day, it is a very nauseating experience when sitting down in the cargo bay
