Baklava | Basics with Babish

Today, we're delving into a honey-soaked dessert that spans cultures and continents: baklava. A flaky, layered pastry of nuts, honey, and butter, I'm sorry I can't type anymore I'm actively drooling.

My playlist of preferred cooking tunes, Bangers with Babish!

He didn't mess up the audio he's just whispering the recipe into our ear

Everyone talking about how the audio is only on the left side, but I'm laughing at how his instructions were briefly to the beat at 3:11

The last time I was this early, Babish didn't live in my left ear.

This is almost as filling as 'lembas bread' from Lord of the Rings.
"One bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man." Especially the mixed nut variant.
So just like Pippin, I tend to eat about four pieces after lunch.

They mention it in that new-ish Netflix movie the Old Guard, Charlize Theron’s character eats it a lot and they have a tradition of trying to make her guess where certain samples are from. Let’s see that homemade phyllo dough

Definitely not the same as the baklava I grew up with, but there's many ways to make baklava. I think everyone loves the baklava they grew up with, for me thats a more crispy diamond-shaped baklava with walnuts and a lightly sweet syrup (sherbet).

Our syrup never used honey, just sugar, water, butter and lemon is very important. You want the syrup to have a more light sweetness, not like caramel or honey, it was never overpowering in sweetness, just the right amount of sweetness, a thin handmade dough, cooked to be slightly crisped but not too hard and nutty.

Baklava is mentioned in Aladdin. By the legend himself Robin Williams. Could do a Robin Williams special for his birthday next year.

I feel like he's whispering over my left shoulder in a slightly uncomfortable way.
