New Porsche Macan Review - has it lost appeal?

Porsche’s mini SUV has had a major revamp for 2024, and there’s one key difference - it’s gone fully ELECTRIC! Now that might sound like a bad thing to some but Porsche being Porsche has gone all out on the engineering of the new Macan.

Let’s have a closer look shall we. On the outside Porsche has done what they usually do and kept the design pretty similar to the previous car but still made some notable changes. Starting at the front the grille has been swapped for a larger lower air intake, and the new headlights are almost exactly the same as the Taycan.

From the side there’s not a huge difference to the current Macan but you can start to see one big change they have actually made. And that of course is the rear, you now have a much more squat looking rear-end which helps with the aerodynamics of the car, whether it looks better or not, we’ll leave that up to you.

On the inside the new Macan is again pretty similar to the Taycan, but that’s no bad thing is it? The driver gets a high resolution curved display as well as a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dash. Even the front passenger gets their own display that is perfect for watching Carwow on.

Then of course getting rid of the ICE version of the Macan does has some benefits, one of those being, performance. The entry-level dual-motor can produce 408hp, while the top-of-the-range Turbo can put down 640hp and an mind bending 1,130Nm of torque - that’s 80Nm more than the Taycan Turbo S! Porsche also claims it should be able to hit 60mph in just 3.3 seconds but we’ll see what it can really do in this video!

The new Macan will start at around £70,000, rising to around £95,000 for the Turbo edition. But is it worth it?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

You should start showing the cars at night. Lights are a big part of how cars look.

I’m happy to see everyone caught on to the airbags being optional. It’s not just Porsche; it’s literally all the big German brands money pinching their customers. I visited both of the Audi and Mercedes configurators online and saw that they were even charging for airbags. Literally outrageous, charging money for a life saving thing that should be standard.

We must put pressure on these companies to give us basic things standard, especially when it comes to safety systems and assisted driving technology.

I am fine if things like different leathers and wood trims are optional extras but an airbag? Unbelievable

1:56 I really really dislike this double headlight design many new cars start to adopt.
Am I the only one?
This Porsche, the BMW i7, many Citroën models as Mat said himself.
It looks horrible to me, and after almost 2 years I still didn't get used to it from the i7.

My first Porsche was electric. It was remote controlled and it was awesome.

For those asking where this was filmed.
He started in Port Gallice, at Juan les pins (south of France), went through Antibes, along the Route du bord de mer. The winding road was between La Colle sur Loup and Pont du loup, to finish at Nice airport.
Awesome to see my hometown in your video Carwow, thank you!

That gimmicky electric charging flap costs more than the rear passenger's side airbag that could potentially save a child's life lol

Making airbags optional is literally telling your customers that you don't care about them but just about their money. Which we all know is the case but it's a pretty bold move to pull out in the open.

Having to pay extra for an airbag in a car it's like going to the pub ordering Fish and chips and when the food comes finding out that the chips were an extra! completely ridiculous.

Drove past a Lambo dealership yesterday. All they had in the window were their SUVs. Seems so sad that most buyers who walk into a super car dealership leave with a van.

Hi. I think many people watch your movies where is metric system km, litres etc. Could you add small text when talking about the range or fuel consumption showing it in metric system? Similar like Doug DeMuro chanel does. Thanks.

I just don't like the dual headlight design - kind of like on the BMW i7. Why couldn't they just have gone with the upper, Taycan headlight part??

I don’t have a problem with it being electric. I have a problem with it being ugly. If I wanted to buy a car that looks like a Hyundai, I’d buy a Hyundai.

I would pay extra to put back the traditional Porsche logo on the turbo

Matt, we have a 2023 Macan and my son (16yrs old, over 6 feet tall) did EXACTLY what you suggested could happen... was crossing over in the back seat and kicked the vent control tab clean off. It can happen!

More ‘Boat Wow’ segments please. The boat snapshot was great.

2.9 miles per kWh is really good for how you were driving. I probably skimmed over it, but it looks like it has pretty big tires so altogether it’s good range
