New Porsche Macan revealed: I’m totally SHOCKED!

Say hello to the all-new Porsche Macan!

Porsche’s mini SUV has had a major revamp for 2024, and there’s one key difference - it’s gone fully ELECTRIC! That’s right, the ICE-powered Macan is officially gone forever. But does this all-electric SUV have what it takes to win over the Porsche faithful?

Well, let’s take a closer look. Starting with the exterior design, the new Macan doesn’t stray too far from the old Macan. Starting at the front the grille has been swapped for a larger, lower air intake, and the new headlights are almost exactly the same as what you’ll find on the Taycan. The side-on silhouette is almost identical to the previous Macan, and while there have been a few design changes to the rear end, we don’t think it’s that much of an improvement compared to the old model!

Step inside and the new Macan is pretty similar to the Taycan. But of course, that’s no bad thing! The driver gets a curved display, there’s a large infotainment screen in the middle, and even the front passenger gets their own screen built into the dash! As you’d expect the cabin is packed full of high-quality, soft-touch materials, and the seats look super comfortable.

One thing this all-electric Macan isn’t short on is performance! The entry-level dual-motor can produce 408hp, while the top-of-the-range Turbo can put down 640hp and an eye-watering 1,130Nm of torque - that’s 80Nm more than the Taycan Turbo S! Porsche also claims it should be able to hit 60mph in just 3.3 seconds.

The new Macan will start at around £70,000, rising to around £95,000 for the Turbo edition. But is it worth it?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Calling it a turbo with no turbo is a crime.

its a disgrace how the german automobile industry and legacy are demolished for no rational reason at all.

Gotta love the interior of this car, absolutely amazing. I like the front end of the car, however the back not so much. When you look at the back of the car from a certain angle (diagonally) it looks weird, compared to the normal macan.

The interior dash is great. Finally something that looks like a real car inside. No tacky large screen tablet display. Very stylish indeed.

Seems like a very strange move to me. Macan is Porsches highest selling model, and they make it completely EV when EV sales are slowing down. I also just don’t think a ton of people who like Porsche are big EV fans. I think this is going to hurt the company

For some reason, those headlights now remind me of the old Kia Sportage. When the Sportage was launched, the lights looked like the front of a Porsche so it's gone full circle for me.

Something you'll only see from a german manufacturer: Selling your car for 115K €...but making back-seat heating optional for 415€....love it.

The Macan likely has a smaller frontal area than the model Y, which will mean its drag difference is less than the CD figures alone indicate. The overall drag is measured by multiplying the CD (drag coefficient) by the frontal area A, giving CDA. This is what dictates overall aerodynamic drag, the CDA, not the CD.

The old Macan had a frontal area of 2.61 sq. m, the new one is quoted as being "less than the old one" (I could not find a figure), and the Model Y is quoted at 2.65 for frontal area. So the difference betwen the two, is less the the CD numbers alone suggest. (0.25 and 0.23). Think of a brick, it has very poor aerodynamics (poor CD) but a small area (A), so it will take less energy to push through the air than an EV, you need to factor in the area part of the equation as well as drag coefficient to give the overall picture.

The Tesla model 3 has exactly the same CD as the Model Y, but 20% less frontal area, so the CDA is 20% less. The 3 should be more efficient at a constant high speed cruise, if the motor etc. has similar efficiency.

The 90% positive comments are mostly sales guys or Influencers for Porsche. Taycan Driver speaking. The car is very nice, but many times in the shop for electronic issues. It's a bother over 3 years.

Where I live, about 10 days ago, the temperature dropped to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit, which killed many EVs as they could not be charged. Would this Macan be able to handle such low temperature?
