I have discs that I burned years and years ago, mainly just for backup purposes and I swear discs left alone after being written to, and then even if never used again, still just magically get scratches from nothing.

Please be aware that you cannot repair scratched blu ray discs. Blu rays have a different type of hard outer coating and if you try to use anything harsh on them, or try to resurface them you will completely trash the disc. If you need to clean a blu ray disc use a lens cleaning spray (for spectacles) and a soft cloth. Don't use IPA.

I got my order this morning, just used this on PS2 Games that wouldn’t play and a few bob the builder DVDs.
They all play a treat, thankyou so much for sharing this hack and product.
I’m just polishing up my OG PS3 and all scratches are coming out .
Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou.
I hope you hit 1k soon you really deserve it 😊😊😊

I use car headlight restoration polish combined with car buffing kit you fasten onto a drill, which removes all scratches and brings the disc up like new, it looks as good as if been through one of those professional buffing machines.

Never move in a motion following the curve of the disc, always move from center out. Any defect following the curve of the disc will be far worse for reading the disc than a radial defect.
Best way to avoid all this, only handle disc by the edge or center. Go straight from case to player then player to case. I have thousands of discs and they all function perfectly, no scratches, because I take care of them.

As others have said, this works on DVD / CV but not Blu Ray. The data layer on Blu Ray is much closer to the bottom and the two protective coats (hard top coat, second polycarbonate layer) are microns thick and can be further damaged by buffing.

Blu Rays used to be very, very hard to scratch but the quality from certain pressing plants has really gone downhill over the past few years and I regularly receive new Blu Rays with small scratches on them.

NIce video. I've only ever used non-gel toothpaste. It's gentle and removes scratches from most plastics. Also cleans drumskins well.

Ah, your son watched it a lot? That explains the scratches. I'm into collection music and video game CDs, DVD-Video, games on DVD (PS2). When you go to online auctions, you have no idea what condition you'll get the disc. Majority are not pristine, but ok (playable). I did received ones that were straight to rubbish bin.
I am amazed at Japanese. The way they delicately handle the phisical media is marvellous. Go to a retro store in any large city and all 20-30+ year old discs looks brand new!

Windolene "spay" for glass cleaning is also great for cleaning sticky fingerprints or that plastic sweat that today's shiny disc holders can do to a disc over time... No need to go mad, 1 or 2 squirts on the disc and a microfiber cloth.

Pressed discs have pits & grooves in the plastic surface, while rewritable discs has ones & zeros burned onto the data layer.
If you hold a pressed disc to the light & see pin pricks of light through it, the label side has damage & there is nothing for the laser to bounce off of, you can usually patch this by getting a silver metallic marker to touch it up
I think I know why he likes the film, because it was partly filmed in Birmingham, USA.

My friend said his CD started skipping and cleaning had no effect. I suggested he gently clean the shiny side instead of the label side. Problem solved...

I use diamond paste.
aka diamond lapping /polishing/ paste / compound.
comes in different grades of coarseness in microns. start with 10-15 micron depending on scratch depth, and finish with 2 - 0.25 micron depending on how perfect a mirror finish you want.
basically rub it in circular motion applied on a lens cloth. in several steps with each grade of compound

Does this also work for PS2 discs that don't load properly due to scratches? is it the same process that can work for it too?

What about disc rot? Have you done a video addressing that?
