I really appreciate some of the old CW abbreviations. Legend has it that back when wireless telegraphy was first installed (think Marconi/Titanic days) on ships and land, young guys (almost boys) jumped at the opportunity to learn CW, and then travel the world on ships and communicate across oceans. They would frequently relay messages for upper class individuals, thus they got the impression that they were pretty important. They started using aristocratic sounding British phrases like "fine business" and "good day, old man". Even CQ is an abbreviation for the french phrase "c'est qui?" which tranlates "who is it?". IMHO, the abbreviations FB, OM, CQ, etc. all are profoundly indicative of the colorful history of wireless. 73 KC9DZT

Bob, Thank you so much for the video! This is a great introduction to new hams to some of the slang that's used throughout the hobby.

I just passed the test and waiting on my callsign but wanted to know what would be a good dual-band mobile radio that's around 200 all in, or where to get a used one? And do you have a video on how to make a dual-band antenna for a base station?

Great stuff Bob. Can you maybe do a video on your hex beam setup? I'm really interested to see what pole system you're using and how you have it guyed. Thanks! //K6OGR

Hi Bob,
But no hi hi!
I turned 62 years of age yesterday I am just young kid, I first earned my Ham ticket as a novice at age 12 in the Boy Scouts,
That ticket expired and I had other interest. In1991 I earned the Tech due to location ( no Antenna natzi rules) I lost interest again.
I kept my ticket active. Just a few weeks ago I became a little more interested however I forgot a lot of the rules Q code of the Ham world.
Your video was a very good refresher on the Q codes I had forgotten about.

He could always deliver pizzas on that bike of his and maybe get enough to pay for that expensive California gas. Other than that he makes enjoyable and informative videos for us ham newbies. Thanks K6UDA!

Did you actually say $50 or did you mean $15 dollars for the 3/4" valve? Hopefully I misheard that one.
