Baofeng GT5R with upgraded antenna vs Yaesu FT5DR with stock antenna.

All my ham radio gear in this Linktree.

I may earn a commission on purchases but this has no bearing on selection.
These are things I use and recommend.👍

For those who think this was a jab at the Baofeng, that was not the point of this video. The point was that I think it sounds BETTER than the $500 radio :D

$26 or $500? The baofeng sounds just fine to me.

$25 radios open the doors for a lot of young folks who cannot afford a $500

The difference in sound quality is definitely not worth $475 difference.

Baufengs are a great way to break into this hobby. Honestly a UV-5R is what got me started. I in fact have 12 of them still boxed and in my closet. I’ve only taken them out to throw a program on then they went back in the box, and back in the closet. Christmas is gonna be fun! Just need 8 more now.

I’d say the expensive one was worse with that loud hiss. The cheep one sounds like you would expect a radio to sound.

If you try this next to interference or jamming the Baofeng will be deafened / overloaded, that extra filtering is also why the yaesu sounds fainter

Baofengs sound better because they are not IP rated so thr speaker is more open.

Im a ham and gmrs guy, and i gotta say if the baofeng was available in 1997 when i got my ham ticket it would have cost 400 dollars. The new icom and yeasu are going digital while the fang is all analog . thats part of the reason its cheap to buy.

I have a bf f8 hp and 2 uv5r-e's, both sound crystal clear. I believe its first and second gen baofengs that are a lil fuzzy

I'm just getting in to this and studying for my license. I plan to take this slooowww. I want to learn all the tech stuff I can and listen and absorb as much as possible before I start talking. It seems the cheaper one can be good for just listening until I know what I'm doing.

The waterproofing on that FT5D is a big Factor. A small sacrifice for a milspec HT.

Everyone should be buying one of these for what’s coming. Mobile towers will go down for a few days or more. Not a scare just sharing the information.

The radio that got me interested VS the radio that I’m actively saving for. Thanks algorithm! 😂
