Making contact with the iss over ham radio

To anyone looking to get a ham radio (you need a licence btw) That's the ISS repeater. You're not actually speaking to an astronaut although sometimes they do get on the air. The repeater allows your signal to be retransmitted so that you can talk to people further away than normal on that frequency. It's a fun hobby but you need to understand you won't buy a $25 HT and immediately be talking to astronauts! 😅

These sats hear you a lot better than you hear them. Because of practices like this, the poor FM repeater on the ISS is unusable most time. It just kerchunks the whole time.

This is actually pretty cool, the extent of my use with radios is working in security where’s its all short range between departments. A co worker shined a light on the entire thing and holy crap this is really cool

Me and my daughter was able to do that and was so happy . That what she wants to do is be a astronaut let me add though we was not on a handheld.. we had a little bit more power let's just say its complicated. Because 😊if I say what I was using and how much power there are to many taddle tales😂😂
