I'm a Debian user and I'm kinda addicted to this distro. For example, now main distro is Debian Stable, and as secondary distro I have Debian Testing (which I'm literally testing it). Once I learned to do a few command line in terminal, I know I can make Debian just the way I want and need. But I started in linux world as a Ubuntu/Ubuntu based distros. I just want to consider two things is this particular distro war: 1 - it's kinda weird but if you install Debian from a live iso you will see that your user will be added to sudoers list, so you can use sudo from the beginning without the need to use root to install/uninstall and update system, or whatever that needs administrator password. That really don't happen if you install from minimal installer. Also, live installer will ask you if you want to login automaticaly, but that never worked for me, I allways have to set autologin manually. 2 - I consider (my opinion) that to have a little "more fair" war in terms of used kernel and more recent softwares maybe Debian Testing would be perfect; we can't forget Linux Lite is Ubuntu (LTS) based and Ubuntu is based on Debian Testing. But of course I understand that you are comparing the regular iso of the distros. Loved this war, but anyway, once Debian, always Debian =)

I tend to believe that Debian wins simply on fact that it has record for highest flying Distro close enough to update itself if ever needs it... ~250 miles (408-410 KM) above the ground, plus the Dragon capsule currently attached runs a Distro of its own...

Infact, Linux Lite really is great and good. The only problem there is the language switcher - when I want to switch & setup my system in German completely, it makes some troubles, not everything is getting translated - my friends in Italy, Russia and in Brazil has similar problems. But I also think and feel that Debian really is solid rock, even when some softwares are a bit "outdated", but Debian is not really easy for newbies.

Em, my fellow neighbor, I installed the net installer for Debian 10.4 and it is not just text, I actually had the option to run the full graphical installer within the net installer. Debian is almost like OpenSuSE in that. Other than Slackware, gentoo and arch which only install CLI, all the other distros I have seen in 2020 have a graphical installer of some sort, even their small net installers. I could be wrong though..

you are not in the sudo group because you configured a password for root at installation. it's recommanded to not set a password for root, hence not be able to log in as root, you will be set at sudoer by default in this case (more information on the installation page, "set root password" page).

Have almost a year Linux experience now after 30+ years with Windows. After 6 months of "distro hopping" found LiteOS5. Absolutely love it!!! Replaced Mint 19.3 with Lite5!! Helps to be conversant with Synaptic!!

Interesting video. I've never used Debian, currently I'm using Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. Perhaps Debian would make a pleasant change, (plus no hassles with the Mint release cycle)

was on debian xfce for 5 years before going back to peppermint on my main rig, it requires a lot more work to setup than other xfce builds. the standard release doesnt include a desktop and you can use tasksel to install it. theme wise its very bare, application wise just stock xfce stuff and you use it as a base to make it your own. once the stable packages start falling behind after a year or i usually upgrade to testing repos then stay there until the next release. lite on the other hand has more setup out of the box and its very easy to use in comparison. debian stable is top notch for reliability though once you learn how to set it up properly.

I use debian bullseye with i3wm, and it takes up 450 mb in idle time, is it normal that it uses that much?

The Debian standard ISO is Debian with no GUI last I checked.

I would like to switch to linux. Actually I have a laptop HP Pavilion (AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, RAM 8GB, HDD 237GB, W10). I've been looking around and I'm interested in these distros: Manjaro XFCE, Debian OS, Pop OS, Ubuntu DDE and Elementary OS. What do you recommend?

I absolutely agree with you about Debian. Newer isn't always better, more secure or more stable. It looks very old but on xfce look dot org plenty of themes to choose from.

i am a bit disappointed that Linux Lite supports only Snap when APT only offers Snap for some popular programs. They could offer to compile Chromium locally with a script and use a RAM-disk, if possible (assuming 8 GB or more). The theming is sensible, I would recommend it as one of the Ubuntu-options if they would solve this Snap problem, now I recommend popOS which does offer a non-Snap install of Chromium.
