I had Linux Lite then Mint on my old laptop like 4 years ago, I guess I should give them a try but on my midrange build, I'm sure the performance is even better now.

If you have a computer with only 2GB of RAM, it's no-contest: Linux Lite.

it took about 1 gb in my installation, can you tell me how to reduce that?

Mint all the way, mostly because there a lot of "spanglish" sentences on Lite and it looks janky while reading in Spanish
