True enlightenment comes from the ability to laugh at your own joke when no one else is around.

Your experience and the objects of your experience arise together. That's why people are so hung up on objects. They see that if they don't have the right objects, then their experiences will be the wrong ones. The only trouble is, there can be no wrong experiences because you are at liberty to create any experience. Nothing can set you free from your own doing.

If external things were the source of happiness, the same things would make everyone happy.

Happiness comes from within... when you enjoy an external thing. Got it

I think we're also taught to conflate comfort with happiness and we're taught to seek happiness at every turn. Ive found that happiness is a really short term emotion and trying to hold onto it makes it feel a whole lot less satisfying than if i appreciate it when it's here and let to of it when its not.

Agree that happiness comes from within, but it’s sure as hell easier to feel happy when you have e your basic needs met and live in a nice environment.

As someone who isn’t a gamer, whenever he said Smurf I pictured the little blue smurfs 😂

Happiness comes from serotonin, excitement comes from dopamine.

The fact that people can't understand this is why it's so hard to find the right person to be with. Let alone have a deep thought with god forbid. Everyone is too busy reacting to life instead of enjoying it.

Epictetus said to break down the things you love and you’ll realize you love much more than jsut that. You love an apple? You like fruits, you like taste, you like food in general. All food is good

Yes, and no. We have fundamental needs also, which only external things can fulfill.

As a non-gamer, "Surely if you're getting dumpstered it's because there's an enemy Smurf" is a very amusing sentence. 😂

I agree with everything said... except the smurf part. Yes people are too quick to blame it on smurfs. But it also is a big problem in competitive gaming.

Exhibit 1 : big streamers are smirfing and are, incidentally, encouraging people doing the same.
Exhibit 2 : Games are getting easier and easier to access ranked immediately after account creation.
Exhibit 3 : As soon as a game has an external tool to check stats off of account name, it is very easy to spot a smurf... anything above 80% win rate is eyebrow raising. (I've personally seen 95% with over a 100 games played.)

Also... really annoying when the solution to the problem would be as easy as tracking IP used by account and then sometimes check the database made using that data to see accounts using the same IP and comparing ranks win rates on those various accounts that collided.

But that would be manual labor. And gaming companies, with all the money they have, are allergic to manual labor.
