Being Bipolar has naturally made me a polymath. Nine years of college and 2 years of Navy Nuclear Power School all without a degree. I learned chess to 1500 and was successful at online poker and many other things. And then I came down from my Manic Episodes and dropped things. Oh well. I know lots about lots of things I shouldn't know about. This video is important for me. I really need to get on a structured program.

Now, I understand why I'm a lifetime learner at 69. Almost everyday for twenty years I memorized students names as part of my lesson plan as I walked into the classroom. It was very cool for the kids to see.

Anthony, thank you so much!! I can’t wait for this, one! (I go around calling myself a “shitty polymath” to deflect from accomplishing anything while explaining my eccentricities lol)

I just finally signed up at your website, I was trying to find a way to pay for something because I’ve been casually annoying you with random stuff for months

But I found SO mUCH awesome free stuff and I couldn’t even find something for sale 😂❤

Thank you for all the work you put in just to help people expand their capacities🎉

You remind me of my genius uncle if he weren’t wrong about literally everything lol

Hello, Anthony. Thanks for the insightful video. It has inspired me to be more open to learning new things. Often, when I feel like I know a lot, I become complacent and lazy. But after watching this video, I’m motivated to become more disciplined and organized in pursuing my interests. I have a passion for many subjects, including programming, biology, history, politics, languages (my favorite), chess, physics, math, engineering, music, and more. Thanks again for your channel. I wish you continued success. Hugs from Brazil!

Hello Anthony and thank you for your video. I am going to share my experience for people like me,
experimental people. And sorry for my english. I listen to it, I read it, never write, never speak.
I had trouble with learning japanese, with passing more diploma in maths for myself, and trying to
pass on math to my students (i am a maths teacher for teenager between 11 and 15 years olds, it’s
« le collège » in France). I ended up on youtube watching video about PAO system and mind palace
for counting cards. I gave it a try and in less than 2 months and with little work, I etablished my
record at 172s. At the beginning I planned on giving myself to the end of this year 2023 to pass
under the 180s, but now my record is 150s, and i am still under 2 months of training.
So I went for foreign language. I never learn spanish so by combining vizualisation and memory
palace I am trying to learn only vocabulary. In less than 10 hours of work I can give 423 words over
the 550 I have learned without watching the french part (nor the spanish part) just by parcouring my
stories and my palace. I « encode » about 100 words in 40 minutes, then i need 20 minutes to pass
them all once again. Then, if I respect my forgetting curve, i need less and less time.
I started without a palace, but I write stories down with all the association I was making in my mind
to remember the word and his meaning. It went fine for the first 100 words and then I had trouble
making association and remember it. I think it was because I let to much time between repetition.
Then i created a palace. I took my childhood house and the entire village and I planned on creating
a palace with 500 loci and put 4 words by loci, creating a story on each loci, connecting the 4
words. For now, it’s too much. I remember 2 or 3 words, rarely the 4th.
I tried to put 4 cards in 1 loci to, to go faster by putting on other object on top of the PAO, kind of a
PAOO, didn’t work for now.
So I went back to 3 words per loci. Not easy either because it’s only noun in my 2000 words the list
I find. It still feels confusing.
I will finish my 2000 words in spanish, then I will go for grammar during a months, adding a bit of
vocabulary each week (verbs!) and do my active recall on the 2000 first ones.
For the third and last month, I am going to do a « immersion » by watching a lot a spanish with
subtitles. That’s actually how I « learned » english. I went to bad at highschool to the first group in
College, just by watching all the Friends and Scrubs episodes in english with subtitles in a week or
two (don’t remember). But I had the basics in voc and grammar to do so and absorb the dialogues.
Then I will be starting everything over with german wich I’ve learned when I was young (instead of
spanish) but almost forgot everything. This time, I will prepare a list of vocabulary in a NVN
system « noun, verb, noun » so my stories, hopefully, would be easier to remember.
Because sometimes, with 4 words by loci, I remeber my story, by not for wich word I did it, or how
the word is prononuce, or I have the idea of the french word, but cant’ connect his translation with
my picture.
Since I am experimenting, I decided not to write down my storires anymore. Too much time. It
does’nt feel necessary. Because if you do your active recall, you don’t look at your invention, so if
you forgot it, watching your invention or the word, it changed nothing because your association
comes back looking at the spanish word.
A other problem is finding association between the spanish word, his translation, and the image you
can make to remember it. Now I am also trying number. I am sharing my idea, I hope it’s not a bad one.
I took my P of heart from my P-A-O system for card, 10 of heart is my 0, the ace is 10 the 2 is 20
etc.
Then I took my A of clubs so that 11 is my P ace of heart and the A of the ace of club, 58 is my P 5
of heart, and 8 is my A 8 of clubs.
70 is my P of 7 of heart, and 0 is my A of 10 of clubs.
This system goes from 00 to 99.
Then I took my O of spades to have a system from 000 to 999.
518 is a colleague playing soccer with maraca.
I am trying now to add a special cloth to do a PAOC system.
5181 is my colleague playing soccer with maraca and a hat on his head.
5189 is my colleague playing soccer with maraca and wearing overalls.
I am afraid I will create some kind of interference with this system… I am learning my phone
contact number to see what will happen.
I hope all of this can give motivation and ideas for others.
Best regards,
EK.

One problem I've been facing is what exactly to study. I worry that maybe the subject I want to study is too broad, or maybe it's too obscure to be useful. Do you have any ways of picking your disciplines?

I have never heard of this term. If someone had asked me what it is, I might have said it is a person who knows many levels of math. I suspect that could be a functional definition of a person who know math at many levels.

How much of this is inherited trait? I think of my dad, who was building an airboat of his own design. I was in the 1st grade and he had a problem that he spent hours trying to solve. I looked at the problem for about 2 minutes and gave him the solution. He was stunned. So inherited?

Are philosophers more likely to be polymaths? Critical thinking is at the core. Too bad we have so little of it now.

I just have questions now and I love this video.

I fucking love ur channel and ur book " victorious mind", ive listened to it multiple times and have finally developed my first memory palace. I have two questions, first why dont you go live anymore ? I love ur prior eps and have also listened to some them multiple times especially the ones concerning meditation and depression...fellow suicidal thoughts guy here. Second is there any possibilty of u reaching out to Sam Harris to be on his podcast? Ive been using the waking up app for two years and it has truly helped with my "unvictorious mind"at the moment. I think it would be a phenomenal meeting of the mind . I will also advise who ever works at the app to get u on, im pretty sure im not alone in this desire...keep up the wonderful work that ur doing, some of ur lives have helped me in some dark times..your book also has giving me hope, and once again thank you👍👍

I want to do everything and nothing. I want to do what I want went I want when I’m interested in it. When I lose interest I want to move on to the next until I’m interested again. Why am I like this?
