How to Become a Digital Polymath

This video discusses the possibility of the 'digital polymath' and argues that we're seeing a 'renaissance' of the renaissance man and women. The web now makes it possible for us to learn more, faster than ever before - all from the comfort of our homes. Meanwhile, crowdsourcing and more powerful tools help us to create and contribute in unprecedented ways.

I believe more and more people are now making use of all this information to expand their skills and knowledge - and that this is the best way for us to get ahead in the 'fourth industrial revolution'.

Better yet, by actively combining the web with accelerated learning techniques, we can learn more, faster than ever before.

Popular accelerated learning strategies include:

* The DiSSS method
* The Feynman Technique
* The target performance level
* Anki flashcards
* Spaced learning

I go into all these and more in the video, and discuss them in relation to the idea of the 'digital polymath'. Be sure to share your tips and suggestions in the comments below!

I’m so glad I found your channel. With all the fantasy characters and unrealistic superpowers we know and love, you’re focusing on the potential of human capabilities. Keep up the good stuff my guy.

I've been learning arduino and coding for the last year or so. I think it literally changed how I think. Trying to solve all of those problems and connect it all together has been a huge boost in my cognitive function

An incredibly awesome video. Definitely something I want to work on.

Working on playing instruments, my mental math, increasing my vocabulary, becoming ambidextrous, learn to play chess. These all interest me, though I know there is more to polymathy than this, but it is definitely a start.

People need to also ensure they know the difference between a polymath and a philomath.

I just started listening to podcasts at 1.5x speed while at work or while exercising, or really anytime I can. Definitely worth it I should have started sooner. Going to start getting audio books too.

I still have to look into more Techniques and learn, train, and practice or apply them, but just 1.5x speed podcasts has been a game changer already.

My living room and dining room area is my home gym and martial/movement arts training space, really anything physical.

Then I also just started turning my spare bedroom into a non-fiction (some fiction but very limited) library/study/home office/workspace.

In my opinion and this may sounds like a conspiracy theory but we’ve been taught to become a wage slave. Get a degree, got a job that most of us hate, get debt, rush into marriage and family etc.,

We also get shunned for being curious, questioning authority and outdated systems. It’s difficult to become a polymath because we get tricked into having stability and security instead of keeping our inner child that loves to explore, learn/grow, move and create.

But we are taking that back because to expand is a human instinct and no amount of “programming” can take it away!

I completely agree with teaching yourself. School is just a program designed like any other course out there, but the difference is school is extremely limited and requires a commitment to completing the final year.

No physicist cares if you got all “A’s” in physics. They care if you bring a NEW CONCEPT to the table.
