I’ve read a bunch of those. Anything David McCullough is terrific. Currently reading the British are Coming by Atkinson. John Adams is my favorite book about one of my favorite founding fathers. I seem to never get enough of reading about the Revolutionary War and Colonial America.

1776 is one I've been wanting to read, same with McCullough's more recent The Pioneers. Also, been eager to read Jeffrey Shaara's books on American Revolution. His Civil War novels are fantastic!

Fawn M. Brodie’s novel on Jefferson is a great read. Not just for the historical context but as a more personal and “intimate” story than anything I’ve read. Highly recommend

My father-in-law was a history teacher and has always been an American History lover. Winik’s book is one of his all time favorites. He enjoys McCullough in general. I’ll have to see if he’s read Fawn’s book.

That Jefferson book is phenomenal. The most underrated bio on him in my view.

In my program, I'm required to read American novels since 1945.Titles such as Black Boy by Richard Wright and Wise Blood etc. I'm looking for American History reference books(not too deep) to contextualize my readings

How do you cover the books? From a roll?

I really enjoyed the John Adams biography and 1776. David McCullough was a fine author. He will be missed.

0:44 It cannot be an autobiography if it wasn't written by Adams himself

Hey Micah! A week or so back, I mentioned I was on the brink of reading some historical non-fiction. The one I had in mind was McCullough's "1776" (I got the hardback in perfect condition for 20 cents in a thrift store...couldn't pass it up!) Do you think it is a good place to start reading? I don't want anything too heavy or textbook-like. When you featured it today, I was thinking.."It's a sign...." 🤨Thanks for the video!
