September Book Haul & TBR (Historical Fiction Theme)

After doing my updated bookshelf tour earlier this month and realising that I've read about 90% of the books I own, I feel like I'm in the position to buy new books again... I'm going to try and do book hauls on a monthly basis as I read and review the books, rather than buying loads all in one go. Obviously this is a bit of an experiment and I'll have to see how it goes - especially because I'm quite busy at the moment and have just started a full-time job. Hopefully it'll work well!

Inspired by "back to school" season and the fact I used to enjoy studying history when I was in school, this month's books all fit within the historical fiction theme. They deal with a range of different topics, including 20th-century Spanish history (the Spanish Civil War and Franco's dictatorship), slavery in the south of the United States, and (post)colonialism in India.

BOOKS MENTIONED:
1) The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
2) Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
3) The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
4) Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie

If you've read any of these books, I'd love to hear from you in the comments section below.

They were all bought online from the Waterstones UK website. If you create an account on there, you get a virtual stamp for every £10 you spend with them, and then once you've collected 10 stamps (or spent £100), you can get £10 off your next book order.

I LOVE that you’re most likely actually going to read these books and that you’re having themes!

They sound interesting so can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

ahhhh, Zafon. The Shadow of the Wind is a favourite of mine, but I've yet to continue the series. I keep seeing Labyrinth everywhere and feeling guilty about it aha. Intrigued to hear your thoughts on it!
Homegoing is one I really really enjoyed. Not like my usual choices but definitely well worth the read. I love how each chapter is a new descendant, and the story passes through so many generations.

Very smart thing to do. It's so easy to buy far more than you can possibly read

Hi Jack! Would you be interested in making a video in French or Spanish? I have watched a vast majority of your videos and I can say that it is admiring the fact you have grown with your channel. The first video I watched was the review of Prodigy by Marie Lu. I am a language lover too. I'm currently studying Foreign Languages at U: English and French. My native Language is Spanish. I only wanted to say that I like your personality and your Instagram! 'cause is not about you but about your surroundings. Greetings from South America!
