Whether you're in the gym, at the crag, or in the mountains, belaying is one of the most important and universal skills a climber can have.
Equally as useful for a climber with a few months of experience and climbers with decades of experience, join Petzl athletes like David Graham, Jorg Verhoeven, Neil Gresham, and Sasha DiGiulian for this discussion on the techniques and importance of a good belay.

I don't just want to be a better belayer, I want to be the worlds best belayer.

I appreciate the sentiment but it would have been good to hear actual tips. You can’t operationalize “standing in the right spot” type of advice because it doesn’t tell you where to stand! I don’t blame any of the climbers here—probably just the soundbite format doesn’t lend itself to sharing specific information

No practical tips on how to actually become a better belayer though… should have called the video «traits of a good belayer» instead

There I was thinking this video might actually describe a certain way to improve your belaying. Perhaps something that is particular to belaying with a grigri. Oh well

Great. You told me that belaying was important. I already knew that, that's why I'm here. You didn't say anything about HOW TO BE GOOD AT IT!
