This why being a fanboy of anything is stupid. These companies are about making money. No reason to be loyal to a billion dollar entity. Goes for cars /brands/sports teams. Why be loyal to big companies with no interest in anything besides making money.

This legitimately angered me. The first console I got after trading in my Wii wasn’t a Xbox 360. It was a PS3 Slim. I know that it’s gotten a lot of hate when it got released and some people prefer the Xbox but to me, the PS3 is one of the best consoles ever made. Blu-Ray compatibility, FREE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER, Large array of games, and PS1 compatibility (mine was a PS3 slim so I couldn’t play any PS2 games on it). It was an amazing console.

The PS4 isn’t as good as the PS3 to be honest but I still like it. It may not have backwards compatibility with ALL older gen discs (PS3, PS2, and PS1 can’t be played on here) and Multiplayer isn’t free anymore (One of my biggest complaints) but it still has some good games (not as memorable as the older gen though), has VR Support (My favourite aspect), and Remote Play (which can be buggy and laggy to be honest and it crashes).

I was really looking forward to this console as I wanted to play the older games on there. But now after this news, I’m glad I saved my money. I’ll be sticking with my current one, thank you.

Edit: Seriously, EVEN PCSX2 can emulate PS2 games. If anything, they should have taken a leaf out of their book.

Good thing I still have the PS2 slim & PS3 slim but still, it would have been an awesome addition to have on the PS5.

Its funny how this is still a topic of discussion when Sony stated in its hour long tech conference way back when that the ps5 was only going to be able to play ps4 games. Makes since because they have the ps now subscription that allows you to play older games from p1, 2, and 3 that generates them profit. They are not gonna change that.

This news is unfortunate, and it’s a definite win for Team Xbox because they have true cross-gen BC. However, if I had to choose, I’ve always been in the camp that prefers full remasters/remakes > OG ports. FF7R, TLOU Remastered, THPS 1 + 2 just to name a few games back up my reasoning on that point.

On the bright side though, Mark Cerny designing PlayStation consoles with x86 architecture means that BC for legacy titles starting from the PS4 should continue well into the future on the PS5/PS6/PS7 etc. No more crazy custom, complicated architectures like the PS2’s Emotion Engine or the PS3’s Cell Processor. So that’s good!

I have one of the original ps3 systems that even has an sd card slot, it reads my classic ps1 disc and ps2 I wouldn’t sell it for anything but I was really hoping that ps5 would play any ps game from 1-5

I definitely want the PS5 to become backwards compatible with all of the playstation games. Including the PS1 games as well.

I still have all my other Playstations for the older games including my PSP Go, and Vita. I'm good.
