The 40 series not selling is going to be used as a justification to pull resources from the consumer side of things. I now completely understand why EVGA bailed.

I love it when the WAN show becomes an impromptu business strategy meeting

Most boycotts don't work because most people don't care. Boycotts based on overpriced products CAN work because even people that don't care still care about their wallets.

At this point, it wouldn't be a boycott but just basic supply and demand. The demand just isn't there for such high prices.

Feels like this is a problem when you have corporations that become "too big to fail" as they can seemingly just replace their customer base with whoever they want if their existing customers aren't "behaving" as they like.

I mean... yes, I can. I don't have any problems with AMD. Nvidia on the other hand doesn't care about selling to me, so I can just return the favour.

Edit: Yes people, I'm aware that I'm one person and that I won't make a single iota of difference to them. No shit. Go to your local kindergarten and point out the obvious to them, I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

They underestimate just how much popular the old gpu vs new games content is...those videos kill it on youtube. Cards going back as far as 1080ti are very interesting to people, to see how they fair against 'modern' cards (aka remortgage subjects).

Intel lowered the A750 with 8GB to 199$.
THAT is actual true value!
AMD would not even have needed to lower the price of the 7600 because it was allready going to be lower than nVidia . .
And they still did it.

Maybe you could team up with PC part picker to get real-time pricing data imported straight into the Labs. Then allow the Labs data to be sorted by current prices not just the MSRP.

The saddest part is Nvidia doesn't ever have to lower the pricing. They can just play the long game and wait until gamers give-in and buy the gpu's while they completely focus on AI.

As an engineer who works on deep learning models and application, Nvidia is the only viable option for consumer home-training models, since AMD or intel does not support deep learning frameworks on windows (and barely works on linux), and Nvidia is a monopoly with their CUDA cores. They are limiting on porpuse the VRAM and increase the prices of their RTX GPUs not because of gamers, they want enthusiast and professional who want to train models at home or small models to buy exclusively the top performer 4090 or 3090 due to VRAM, which is much more important than the performance of the card. So when artificially limiting the VRAM on lower-end models, and increasing the price, they push people to buy top-end so they can use DL/ML applications.
To be honest, RTX 4090 is as much of an A5000, A6000, etc., for a fraction of the price, even though the power consumption is higher. So it is a no-brainer for home model trainers.

I like the idea of the Lab testing older cards, that receive new updates. In that same vein, I havent seen a lot of content about how different cards handle VR via the VR link on steam for oculus or for the valve index in general. I know its "hyper specific" but I think VR is going to continue to be adopted, and it will become more and more important.

I'm honestly tempted rn to go team red for CPU and team blue for GPU. Alchemist is starting to look like a compelling alternative to the current hogwash of the GPU meta.

This is exactly why Intel decided it's time to try and enter the market.

Until Nvidia starts putting adequate VRAM for my AI models at not absolutely insane prices, I'm stuck with what I got. Sure i could get the 4090 but i respect my bank account too much.

It is unfortunate that AI stuff requires such ludicrous amounts of compute that even once the hype dies down where everyone makes an AI startup, it's unlikely the market is going to be insanely flooded with the enterprise GPUs.

Why is it in the 2020s mid tier struggle to run 1080p? It used to be only 2-4gb to run a game at 1080 and now we're wondering if 12gb will be enough?

Wth?

This has happened before and will again. CPUs have not catered for the user nor gamers for ages. All the innovation happens in the Enterprise space, and we get leftovers.

Not buying something that's over-priced doesn't always have to be considered a boycott or an attempt to send a message to X company. Sometimes it's just too expensive to justify or simply unaffordable. Right now, it's not that AMD is good or Nvidia is bad. Rather AMD and Intel are offering products that are more accessible and reasonably priced, and Nvidia is just not interested in being competitive in the consumer space.

The main problems with boycotts and why they almost never work is that not everyone is on the same page and they usually only last for a couple months and sales don't make that much of a difference for the company to care.

Companies are neither good nor bad guys. As long as they keep making money, they don't give a fuck. 😂😂
