AirPods Pro 2 vs AirPods Max on a Plane

When you need great noise cancellation for your flight, which should you bring: AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods Max?? We tested both on a 5-hour flight and found a clear winner!

I took both on my trip from Perth->Sydney->LA but I barely used my max on the flight.
The max sounded great but the size, weight and case situation made the Pro’s easier to use.

AirPods Max for home use. I have a hard shell case for mine and it just takes up too much space, I keep a pair of AirPods Pro 2 with me for travel and a pair of OG AirPods Pro as a backup.

For me the Pro 2s block out more noise and is also more comfortable then the maxes for me. These are the most important things for me so it's a easy choice. The in ear fit and with the right size tips is simply better, the only downside is if you wear them for long periods (5hr+) as you will have to charge them. They block out more than any over ear headphone I have tried.

I have both. I think the AirPods Max have a better seal which will make the noise cancellation better overall. If you don’t mind carrying them I think it’s a better choice.

I recently flew from Sydney (Australia) to Houston direct and used my AirPods Max - they were fantastic, I fully charged before I left and the battery lasted the entire flight!!!!

The Pro are so convenient to carry around with you, but the Max are way more comfortable for longer sessions. I take the Pro with me for my daily commute. But for flights, I like to take the Max; they don't hurt my ears and sound great.

I used to take Max but it is so big and cumbersome. I travel a lot. I take the AirPods Pro 2 and my Beats Fit Pro. I always have the Beats in my backpack as a back up for exercise, rain, and reprieve if my airpods need to charge for 20-30 min.

I think he's correct. People (at least prior) use to always say the Max would be awesome on the plane and my question was always "how??"... the portability alone of the Pro 2's make it a winner. I think for me I will primarily use my Max at the house and maybe small trip like to a cabin or something. This big headphones are a no no. Especially if you travel with an infant at times. I'd rather reduce any unneeded weight.

AirPods Pro 2 definitely the way to go. My daughter took hers to Italy and they were absolutely amazing for her.

Re long flights: For the price of the AirPod Max, you can buy two AirPods Pro. Use one while you recharge the others. Plus, if you lose one, you have a spare with you.

Its so subjective: I have a perfectly working set of first gen Airpods Pro, so i got the Airpods Max, i think its important to not purchase tech you don't need, so getting the one that filled the gap was worth it! Especially seeing as my AirPods only last 6 hours and im in Australia so my flights take 8hrs plus.
I felt like it was a super comfy wear when I was napping as it weirdly feels like a hug on my head. But again, super subjective!

Appreciate your experience and opinion…i tried both APM and pro 2 on 11hour and then additional 10 hour flight across the world on Boeing 787 and the airpods max were very clearly superior noise canceling and enough to help me sleep vs pro 2. Just my personal experience although i like portability of pro 2’s.

I`m using airpods pro 1 generation for every day and sony WH-1000XM3 for flights. It is best combination.

I take both, but the airpods max is the best when ur in the plane amd when u get off I switch to the airpods pros !

I take both. I use the Pro 2s for walking around the terminal. As soon as u get on the plane I break out my max. The max do a far better job at drowning out conversations and things like babies crying. Plus the quality of audio is simply just better on the max.

If you have a beard or even a lot of hair, this will affect how much residual noise gets into the ear on the Max. I’m clean shaven and bald and I can tell you, the Max ANC can achieve a really good noise cancellation. It is on par or better than my Pro 2’s.

For someone who wears glasses, does the airpods max irritates the ear after a long use? because I personally dont like pros due to the way it creates vaccum inside the ears
