For my black folks in the comments: my dermatologist explained that what you're looking for is bleeding. Not like, blood trickling down your scalp, but just little dots of blood. Once the little dots of blood show up, you'll know that you've pressed hard enough. You should use a 1.5mm needle length and press hard enough that only two or three passes will make you bleed, you shouldn't be going back and forth a million times. It should definitely hurt while you're doing it. I hope that helps!
