I have a laowa and I’m thinking about switching to the 18mm batis. When I want to focus on objects up close it can be a pain.

The 16-35GM is my real estate workhorse. Well worth the cost of admission IMO. Fantastic lens.

Where's the architecture pics you promised at the end of the video?

Great review Jason. I'm also curious if you have any experience with the latest Samyang 14mm AF for Sony E?

The loawa 15mm seems like a great lens for the price.

I had the 16-35 f4 sold it and now thinking of the 16-35 GM

Hey Jason, great topic and very good review. However, I am still in a dilemma: Can't decide either to go for the 15mm Laowa or the 16-35mm GM lens! I need a wide lens primarily for video on a Ronin-S gimbal, mainly wide shots for music videos. But also for photography and some real estate stuff. PRO GM: Flexbility (zoom), auto focus, Image quality, CONS: Price, and wheigt/balance on gimbal - PRO Laowa: Zero-D, lighter, smaller, CONS: manual, no flexibility. In this case, what's your advise / choice?

laowa is a crazy good lens... waay under rated. It actually can be used for wide angle macro work as well which can render some amazingly creative video shots. The best part is if you are concerned with manual (i'm not, i shoot everything manual) then it can go to infinity within a meter or so anyways so it shouldn't affect anyone for landscape work.

To be honest, the Sony FE f2.8 GM zoom trinity are the go-to lenses if cash is not a problem. I mostly do fashion portraits ranging in between subject in landscape to close ups. Whilst cash is a concern for me, I go with the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8. Not that I like the 14-24 that much, but I just want the UI to be identical across all lenses, so that I can look at what I'd be shooting rather than looking for buttons, rings and switches. That being said, I really like the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, liking it enough to buy the 14-24 alongside it.

Anybody know if Tamron is coming out with a wide fast zoom?? They gained my love and trust with the 28-75 2.8 so if they come out with an E mount 17-35 2.8 I'm all for it

I use the 24-105 right now. It's so versatile for travel/walk around but I just ordered the 16-35 (ouch) and can't wait to try it out!

Thanks for the Video. But what about the Sigma 14-24 f 2.8?

My go to lens for a7iii: 24-105 f4. Its amazing. My choice for a6500: 18-105 f4. I do mostly videos. Those focal range is useful and versatile 80% of the time when making vids.

Loawa is for crop sensor or for fullframe?

Have you tried the IRIX 15mm 2.4 with MC-11 adapter? Great lens for the money

how is infinity focusing with laowa? is there a sweet spot to find or are there markers? (having 7, 5mm laowa for mft and getting infinity right is very hard...)

Sony 85mm 1.8 prime lens is my walk around lens. Also my Sony 50mm 1.8 prime lens. Not a pro, only been doing photography for 3years, still learning but it's in my blood. For mirrorless I started with the Sony a6000, recently upgraded to the Sony a7III. Love the Sony a7III. when I first got interested in photography, my first camera was a special HSN had Canon T4i and the kit lenses were good but that's when Canon was focus on consumer. I then bought my first drone DJI Phantom 2 when that came out to use on my real estate inspections (roofs and high areas I could not see) Controller got hacked on an inspection and it was comical on what happened me yelling at the drone "Where Are You Going" Come Back"! It stopped at the light, took pictures of the people waiting for the light went up then took pictures of people eating at California Chicken Café went up back across the street clipped palm tree branches and landed on its landing gear. Sent it back and got the DJI Phantom 3 Pro, and then every consumer drone DJI and Parrot had. With all that, I am now possessed with photography. I am researching wide angle lenses e mount for landscape, portrait, astro, real estate, street and night. Yeah the full gambit. However, this is where my N.Y. Italian thrifty side comes in. Not wanting to break the bank and have my also NY Italian wife not put a hit out on me and I still keep breathing and maybe get a lil some'n some'n. What do you suggest?
Sorry for the novel

great video thanks dawg. anyone in the comments use the laowa 15mm for real estate videography? Do you like it for that? In a perfect world i'd get the 16-35 gm but its just soo expensive and i already have the 24-70gm (love it). cant afford another bank-breaker.

Hey man, question for you... I NEED a wide angle - I'm a realtor and I'm leaning toward the 15mm Laowa. I thought about the 16-35mm G master, but I bought the 24-70mm G master for my Sony A7Riii, and buying a 16-35 to range in some of that same focal distance just doesn't make sense. I'd like a bit wider for when I vlog too, but with no autofocus - which I'm sure I'd get used to. I have my old canon glass - a 16-35mm ef mount 2.8 on a Sigma adaptor - that I use now. Can't use the video autofocus on it either and its not been a big deal. Just something about this Laowa that has my eye. Damnit. Okay - so is the Laowa 15mm F2 worth the upgrade from a 16mm canon 2.8mm? That's what I'm struggling with I guess.
