The sigma 90mm f2.8 is the pocket 85 you’re looking for - sometimes Adorama sells it brand new for $300. Also, when you use the 90mm in aps-c mode, you actually get a true 135mm fov ;)

When I want to go as small and light as possible, I go with my a6600 and the 24mm G and 50mm G lenses. Love the tiny lenses. Lots of fun.

I too love tiny lens! The biggest challenge with focal lengths less than 50mm (i.e 16-40 mm) is keeping good sharpness with minimal barrel distortion, which is introduced with shorter barrel lengths. There are compact lens out there but many need that extra barrel length and diameter to control distortion. Case in point is the Sony 20mm, G, f1.8 and the 24mm, f1.4, GM. These lenses are renown for having no to almost no distortion but achieve it with longer barrel lengths and larger diameter. The Sigma, 17mm, F4, DG DN (1:49) and Sony, 24mm, f2.8, G are tiny and compact but notoriously have Mad barrel distortion without lens corrections. These lenses are designed to work with the cameras lens correction feature to return a “truer” image, but does it at the expense of stretching and reducing sharpness in the corners of an image, (some won’t find this important, some will). I considered buying both these lenses but couldn’t get past the distortion and at least for the 24mm opted for the larger 24mm, F1.4, GM. For that setup at 0:33, I went with the Non pocketable one!

These lenses, the Samyang tiny sereis and the Sigma i-Series are the reason I just upgraded to the A7C. Soo much fun to shoot with these tiny lenses

Great video! 3:35 I own the Sigma 90mm, f2.8, DG, DN and it is an engineering marvel in my opinion how something that small and compact can give the kind of reach and sharpness across the frame that it offers. With lens corrections off there is pin cushion distortion but that goes away completely with no loss in quality at all when turned on. It is a marvelous lens with it’s clicky aperture ring and AF/MF button. It has a lot going for it and everything it offers bends the senses. Really happy with this lens.

2:22 Thanks for noting the filter thread feature provided on the lens hood of the Sony compact (24, 40, 50mm) trio of lenses. I have the 50mm, which I think is the best of the bunch but did not know this, as I bought it used and it didn’t come with the hood. Keeping the filter on the hood and easily twisting on and off is a great behavioral tip!

The Tamron primes are also super small and super light. Their focus won't be the fastest or quietest but they have really good image quality and can do 1:2 macro photos.

Their 35mm offering has a very similar lens hood to the one you were describing as well, where you can attach a filter to the end of it.

Yes definitely need more smaller lenses. My favourite lens for my first camera was the Panasonic 20mm F/1.7 (40mm equiv) on the Olympus OMD EM10. It was a great travel combo. And the Oly 45mm F/1.8 (90mm equiv) was stellar. Wish we could get similar for FF. My favourite with Sony has been the A6000 with the underrated FE 28mm F2 (equiv 42mm) as a nearly pocketable walk around combo.

The samyang 75 and the youngou 85 1.8 are pretty compact. I’ve got the 85 and I carry 35/85, love em

Samyang 24mm f/1.8 has been my everyday lens for the last year. 230 grams, with f/1.8! Anybody who loves this sort of lenses, I'd suggest a take a look at Samyang.

Well, as an astrophotographer myself, I've been shooting with primes exclusively, but there is a time and place for everything, and today, lenses are so well made that even "cheap" ones are good. I started using the Samyang 24 F 1.8 recently and it's been a blast.
Going from lenses around 700gr to 1kg, to 260gr. I mean.... JUST WTF.

I just got a fe28 f2 to pair with my zv-e1, and this combo is almost perfect.
It’s a little longer then the G trilogy, but it offers bright f2 aperture and delivering solid results, considering the price it’s an absolute steal.

I know I’m a little late, but the Viltrox 20mm f2.8 fits the description and costs around 150-160 usd. It’s crazy good for the price! It’s a full frame lens too, so it’s great for both FF and APS-C as a 30mm lens.

How about the Samyang 75mm 1.8 as an alternative to the 85mm? My setup is an A7C with the Samyang 18mm 2.8, 35mm 1.8 and the 75mm 1.8 all packed in the Peak Design 3l Sling. The 35mm and 75mm are great lenses, the 18mm is not bad but not great. But ultrawide I shoot the least, so it’s ok for me. Been thinking about replacing it with a 24mm, because I always struggle with composition with a lens as wide as 18mm.

I bought the 24 and 40 with the original a7c. Wasn’t happy with the evf so I sold it. Waited around for the a7cii.

And it’s definitely my favorite setup for compact shooting. Goes great with 3L peak design sling.

Paired with the osmo pocket 3 and you’ve got everything you need!

I've done a ton of walk-through photography videos with the 40m f2.5g lens and it's my favorite. A super popular lens.

Got the A7CR and I need lenses that are more compact when carrying it around! To make it more fun to take around and shoot

I wanted a "second light primes setup" to 1/ serve in case of problem with the BIG setup (20 1.8 G / 35 1.4 GM / 85 1.4 Sigma) on a wedding and 2/ be my new setup for personal use and especially travelling.
The idea was to try first the 90 2.8 from Sigma (the one you almost forgot Jason ;) )... and in the end, the same day, I bought the Sigma Trinity : 17 / 35 (f2) and 90mm :)
They're so light and so compact, I love them !! I brought them with me last week in Copenhagen, can't wait to see the results on my big screen !
Next time, they're going to Japan :)
