David Bowie once said that, much like with the Velvet Underground, not a lot of people bought the Pixies' albums - but everyone who did, started a band. The Pixies have been name-checked by Nirvana, Radiohead, and many more alternative bands as a key influence on their music. It would be well worth your while to check out their songs. I'd suggest Tame, Gauge Away, Hey, and Wave of Mutilation. To name but a few.

This is one of their iconic songs, with scenes from the movie "Trainspotting" in this video. Pixies were like nothing else. A whole genre in and by themselves. The should be in all the halls of fame.
Check out "Debaser" next...

“ when I heard the pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band “ Kurt Cobain

Great tune, great band. I'd recommend "Monkey gone to Heaven" by them.

You must also check out The Breeders - CannonBall, Lead singer is Kim Deal, who is the Bass Player for the Pixies. Her Twin sister Kelley also plays for The Breeders.

This video is from 'Trainspotting'. The video I actually associate it with is from the movie 'Fight Club' - the closing scene. Either way great song, hearing it performed live from this band was a surreal experience me.

It was music like this in the late 80s that helped create the 90s flavor.

When Kurt Cobain wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit he said "I was basically trying to rip off The Pixies."

Solid choice for the first Pixies song to react to, as it's one of their most popular and accessible tracks (slower tempo). Pixies has a huge discography of groundbreaking songs to choose from, but 'Here Comes Your Man' and 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' were two other more mainstream tracks (relatively speaking!) to react to before getting into their more intense stuff.

I love "Wave of Mutilation, " the "Pump up the Volume" movie soundtrack version by this band. As well as "Gigantic, " "Hey" & many others too.
I saw them live at The Palace of Auburn Hills when they opened up for U2. Awesome show!...

Pixies are a favorite band for me. 'Velouria' 'Wave of Mutilation' 'Gigantic' 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' 'Hey' 'Here Comes Your Man' are all good Pixies songs. Enjoy your exploration into the best indy rock band there ever was. ✌️

I love the occasional discordance in Pixies music when they hit Hard like they do. Things don't always have to be smooth and pretty.. Pixies were AND still are huge to me!
