“For us but not to us”...that sums it up very well. Thanks for this video! 🙂👍🏻

A bit of history, bit of humour and a nice bit of teaching your videos are great at cramming so much in a condensed video.

When we read scripture it's important to keep in mind that smallest literary unit is the paragraph - not the verse.

Well done, brother!

Imagine being called "the weeping prophet" because God told you he has plans for everyone to be happy, healthy and wealthy :/

Nice lesson, Daniel! I loved it. Thank you brother. Please pray for brother Brad. Please pray for his father and his family. They're going through rough times right now. Love you brother. -Kelly 💕

Patrick Dempsey as Jeremiah. So weird... but it was actually pretty well done. That whole series isn't bad. Ben Kingsley as Moses worked too.

"Exactly! That's why the vast majority of the New testament doesn't apply to us."

The above statement demonstrates the danger of taking this particular part of the hermeneutic method to its ultimate end if you ignore the rest of the hermeneutic method.

John 3:16 is a verse that is taken out of context. Many people think that they can just believe in Jesus and that makes them a Christian. 😥

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
For I know the plans I have for you, says the lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

While i agree the particular verse was meant for Israel, i also dont think it doesn't stop being applicable to us as well. The reasons are:

1. It's true God actually knows the plans he has for us. He certainly does have different yet interconnected plans for us indivually.
2. My 2nd reason is focused on the statement in the verse that reads "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." This is well applicable to us too. When God spoke this to Jeremiah, the israelites were still captives. Years later, Israel would suffer at the hands of many foes. Till today as i'm writing this, Israel faces many conflicts and attacks from their enemies. Does this mean that the promise in Jeremiah 29:11 about good and not disaster or peace and not evil have failed to be fulfilled? Of course, not. Even in the midst of severe persecution from their enemies, Israel continues to thrive and prosper. Here is my point, just because many christians are persecuted and martyred in many places doesnt mean that God doesn't have a good and a hopeful plan for the certain persecuted christian community/individual person. The plan God has for us extends beyond this earthly life. What you perceive as bad could be good in the sight of God. In this context, it is applicable to the contemporary believers too.
3. Finally, apostle Paul uses promises in the OT particularly from Genesis which was particularly meant to the Israelites as per "context" as if it were spoken to us. This is because he believed we are the spiritual Israelites. With this scriptural context, i believe the promise is still for us.

You really don't have to embarrass and pee all over people's faith in order to make your points that Christians will encounter persecution and suffering. Or, that context matters. But, God uses His word as He sees fit to lift up both believers and not-yet believers out of the darkest pits.

As a new believer, I prayed, "Lord, if You want me to go to Bethany Bible College, You will have to make it crystal clear to me". I flipped my brand new Ryrie Study Bible open and my eyes were immediately drawn to a heading over a passage. Yes, definitely a man-made heading. I read: "Greetings in Bethany." Shortly after, I was beginning my first semester.

…10 For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, 11so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. 12 You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.…
Berean Study Bible · Isaiah 55:10-12

People who usually complain about this verse being out of context (disregarding that spiritual application is a thing) are often the same people who take Romans 9 and New Covenant verses out of its Israel context, which is the same context as this one, ie Calvinists

Am I right? Are you a Calvinist?

This is interesting. Im not in prosperity doctrine where they emphasized riches or materialism but as what I believe God can promise that to us even now right though as what I said not focused on material things. My question now just to clarify it, then based on your video, that verse is not applicable for us? Just limited to that time of Jeremiah?
