Something for very visual learners - slow motion knit stitch in three different styles of knitting.

You can see my regular speed knit stitch video here:

The playlist of all of my slo-mo videos (more coming!) is here:

The needles I use are Knitter's Pride Platinas from an interchangeable set. The yarn is Valley Yarns Northfield in color Jade.

Stacey, thank you so much for doing these slow motion videos, you are the best knitting teacher on YouTube and I have always wanted to review basic techniques and the slow motion is very helpful!!

Fascinating...slow motion really shows the mechanics of it all. I think I can tell why you have trouble with continental knitting. You're keeping your left index finger straight (like with flicking, which makes sense) and your left palm facing down. This is why the yarn is hard for you to pick up. Most continental knitters turn their left hand so the palm faces toward them (instead of down) and bend the index finger slightly. Slow motion is really great. Thanks for the insight it gives.

This slo-mo actually speeds things up. My grandma taught me how to knit when I was in 3rd grade but she cast on and off so fast I never caught on except for knit and purl. Plus she had very little patience with me screwing up. Then in my late 40s my wife taught me and I finally got it. So many visual learners will benefit from this. Thanks so much! I also noticed the way you "throw'" seems just about as efficient as the continental way I knit.

For continental if you put the yarn from your pinky finger (wrapped around the pinky) and over the top of your ringer and middle finger making sure it's over your knuckle of the middle finger it will go much faster and the yarn will be coming from a good place, especially for purling.

Awesome!! I did not really see how you held your yarn when you began flicking. Continental was very specific. I just moved to the Philly area and am trying to get two knit groups started. People assume that I’m a very good knitter since I want to start the groups. I am not! So, my very first approach, before ‘demonstrating ‘ is to recommend your channel. Thank you so much for doing these. Looking forward to even having duplicate ‘slow motion’ from your previous videos. Some get it in a regular speed...others slow motion. Having the choice would be fantastic! Thank you again, Ann

Thank you Staci this was a great idea!!!! Seeing how you hold the yarn around your finger in slow motion sure is easier to follow.

This is surprisingly very cool, seeing the movement, flow and tensions (or not!) of the fingers. I am trying to improve my knitting outcomes by relaxing my hands and arms; I think these videos will help.

Your videos have been such a great find for me! I learned to knit when I was a kid and haaaated it (couldn't sit still), but tried it again in my 50s with Malabrigo Rasta and size 13 needles and was hooked! The more I knit, the more I want to learn and you are my go to for all "how do I" questions. The slow motion series is fantastic, as are the regular speed videos, and it's been so much fun to work my way through all your videos. Thank you so much for making them!!!

Love tis, I have been trying to get the hang of knitting for a bit and this really helps. The close up and slow motion really let's me see what I have been doing wrong. Thank you so much !

I’ve been afraid to try knitting (I am a crocheter), although I’ve always wanted to learn. As always, you break it down into very approachable steps. Thank you for taking the intimidation out of knitting!!

Thank you so much for doing this video. I taught myself how to knit a couple of years ago through books and videos (many of which are yours). I've gotten pretty good but having a video like this that breaks it down in slow motion step by step is great. I can fine tune my basics and hopefully improve my knitting even more. Thank you!!!!

actually watching this is very calming. Maybe knitting ASMR? :0 I never could make progress with continental. Supposedly its faster but I think flicking is. Thank you for this series of slow motion. I'm definitely a visual learner.
