Engines of Amtrak - GE Genesis [REMAKE]

Показать описание
After a bit of a delay, its finally here! Amtrak's Genesis locomotives came in at a time when the railroad's F40PH's were getting up in age. They'd been the primary motive power since the mid 1970s, and by then it was the 1990s. Amtrak needed a new and modern replacement to their boxy engines. General Electric was chosen to manufacture a replacement. It went under the name AMD-103, but would later better be known as the P40DC, or more generally speaking, Genesis. This line of locomotives would prove to be a major upgrade for Amtrak and continues to impact the railroad to this day.

Hey all, sorry this took so long to release. This episode required a lot more work than I expected, and it ended up being pretty tiring to finish. I was also sick and stuffed up while recording most of my narration for this, so if I sound any different, that's why lol. Hope you enjoyed the video!

I’m gonna miss these giants. They look sharp and had some of the best sounding horns.

I’ve grown up with Amtrak Genesis Locomotives, from watching dvd and VHS features about them as a young child to filming them today. They sure aren’t anything special to see, but they’re definitely a special locomotive that will always have a special place in this generation of railfan’s hearts.

I’m gonna miss the Genesis locos when they’re retired, though the ALCs are growing on me, and I welcome them with open arms!

One of Amtrak's most reliable locomotives. If not, the most reliable locomotive Amtrak has ever and ever will run. Rest in peace.

I’ll never forget these titans of American rail. Damn good locomotives, they were the Amtrak fleet leaders I grew up with. No matter what happens the GE GENESIS locomotives will always be he face of Amtrak for me

Great video! There's nothing like being next to a P42 chugging out of a station. You can actually feel the vibrations in you chest.

I’m going to miss the genesis locomotives so much when they’re gone. They’ve definitely left their mark on Amtrak’s history and they’re served us all well.

Fantastic video!!!! I’m honored to once again be a part of your narrated video series again!!! I enjoyed seeing my video at 11:51 with Amtrak P42DC Heritage Unit 156 leading Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 777 which was certainly a sight to see!!! Amtrak’s GE Genesis locomotives have been a large part of the fleet for well over 30 years now and its always fascinating to see and hear them on both intercity and long-distance trains throughout the country, particularly for me in California when it comes to intercity routes like the Pacific Surfliner or Long-Distance routes like the Coast Starlight and Southwest Chief, they are quite the sight to behold and I will always remember them as one of the many icons of Amtrak, much like the F40PH, Dash-8 and F59!!! Of course now, we are living in a time of innovation and becoming more environmentally conscious/friendly while it might be sad to say goodbye to them with the new Siemens SC-44 Charger and ALC-42 Charger locomotives entering service which have been growing on me I will still always remember seeing and hearing them in soo many unique and exciting ways of pulling and pushing trains throughout the rail network!!! Amazing Job!!! :)

I still can't believe that Amtrak was using inherited passenger locomotives until the late 1990s tbh, those FL9s were underrated workhorses.

If you really think about it, the P40DCs were the first dual-cab diesels to be mass produced in america

Some of my fondest memories were because of the Genesis. From my first solo ride to enjoying railfanning with an online-friend-become-IRL, they’ve been the backbone of all great things I’ve experienced throughout my life. I’ll be heartbroken once my local line goes full Charger, but I’ll never forget how much those old beasts mean to me. Onward to change, and honor to the legends.

The Genesis is among my top three favorite locomotives ever (behind the GG1 and Big Boy). Their designs always felt so ahead of their time and, in a way, they still do.

The America by Rail series introduced me to this wonderful class of engines.

It's crazy to think these things still see regular use 30 years later

I remember watching "There Goes A Train" back in the day, and Engineer Dave drove P40DC 801. P40DC 801 was withdrawn in 2005, stored in Bear, Delaware for years, and finally sold to LTEX.

These have a special place in my heart. They aren't my favorite Amtrak, but I remember seeing them everywhere, typically going south out of Portland. You served us well!

I love the P42DC locomotives, they had beautiful sounding horns, and are very unique locomotives. I also miss them running the state supported routes like the Pacific Surfliner, Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins, Cascades, etc
