This is a quick video of me showing you how to test for continuity with a multimeter. Checking for continuity is an easy way to see if 2 ends of something are connected. I use a car fuse in this video, but a continuity check can be done with many things. It is commonly used to see if 2 ends of wire are connected. All that you have to do is switch your multimeter to continuity mode (ohms on my multimeter), and touch 1 probe to each end of the object/wire. If the multimeter reads 0 or close to 0, then there is continuity.

Close to zero because the leads you are using have nominal resistance. Great simple video, perfect to send to a friend in trying to help diagnose his dryer heating element. Thank you

But to be cmplete, if you perform the test and the display doesn't change (i..e. it stays as "1 ."), there is NO continuity and the part is bad. If the display is erratic, the continuity is intermittent thus the part is also bad.

Good video. I always wondered on my cheap multimeter, where the continuity setting was. On Fluke and more expensive meters, it has it's own setting and audible beeps, so it's easy, but on cheap ones, it's hard to know where you're not an electrical person. Yet I spent 23 years as a Computer Repair Technician and never used it, lol. I knew others who did though.

Good demo. The reason you are seeing some numbers displayed is due to resistance (Ohms). This meter combines continuity and Ohms (Omega Symbol) as one reading

resistance is fine-if there is a breakage in wire then the flow won't pass to the other end, hence resistance-so resistance test is fine set on lowest resistance test (think of it as a flowing river)

What Will it show if there's no continuity. For instance, if the fuse is blown. What would the reading be

Ahhh, well, you see, you used the WRONG setting on the multi meter. You are testing for a resistance of up to 200 ohms. For your meter the correct setting for continuity is the diode symbol and is right next to the 200 ohm setting. when using the correct setting a numeric value of 1 just means no continuity, any other number means there is resistance and therefore continuity.

Gave you a thumbs up, BUT... at the end you say, "the only thing I recommend is TRULY BE CAREFUL with what you are testing" but then you leave it at that. Some examples to the inexperienced of what you're referring to exactly would go a REALLY LONG WAY to completing that thought. Just sayin'.
