Microsoft made some recent changes to Windows 11 which abuses privacy in multiple ways. But remember that Microsoft is not alone. The move to break our privacy with AI is something the competion started with first. Now they're playing catch up but doing so in the most aggressive way with the help of OpenAI.

I'm the Internet Privacy Guy. I'm a public interest technologist. I'm here to educate. You are losing your Internet privacy and Internet security every day if you don't fight for it. Your data is collected with endless permanent data mining. Learn about a TOR router, a VPN , antivirus, spyware, firewalls, IP address, wifi triangulation, data privacy regulation, backups and tech tools, and evading mass surveillance from NSA, CIA, FBI. Learn how to be anonymous on the Internet so you are not profiled. Learn to speak freely with pseudo anonymity. Learn more about the dangers of the inernet and the dangers of social media, dangers of email.

I like alternative communication technology like Amateur Radio and data communications using Analog. I'm a licensed HAM operator.

Hackers are going to go after this feature big time. And it's something no one asked for or wants.

I see a great future for the abacus. If you don't want your finances recorded...just shake to reset.

This is nightmarish.
If you torrent, now the AI knows what you download and from where.
If you use a VPN now the AI knows when and how and where you prefer to connect.
And what sites you go to.
If you use Tor.
If you have a set of websites you like to frequent, it now knows even if you do browser isolation and dont login to Google.
And on and on and fucking on. The abuse potential is unfuckinglimited.

The problem is that the majority of people is relatively tech illiterate and don't even realize or care about this, which is scary because as long as the companies keep getting money and there is no real backlash they will keep doing whatever they want. I feel that as the internet became popular and monetized it became crap, I used to search and find a lot of information on the internet about 15 years ago, now i cant find anything like before, I feel like Im in a chamber were I walk in circles and I only get the same results over and over, what the algorithm thinks I might be interested in to maximize profit.

In 1990 we had Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall
22 years later (2012) there was a remake of Total Recall, only worse
But then 2024 came around, and this time we're facing the worst of them all: Windows (Copilot+) Recall

I moved to Linux years ago. I don't really need Windows for my tasks, as I primarily use browsers, LaTeX, and PDFs.

I've lately officially switch to Linux. Best choice of my life. It's faster, safer and I'm avoiding data collection.

I've finally forced myself to start using Linux on my daily driver (Ultramarine KDE) and I'm not looking back. It's not 100% perfect, but much faster and no spyware bloat.

Thank you Rob for opposing all those abuses. Sadly this understanding of how unacceptable this all is will probably not reach a mainstream audience any time soon as non tech savvy people are usually very important society members that do not have any time to spare on such nerdy considerations, but eventually Microsoft will fade away because of this abusive attitude where customers are treated like idiots that do not matter. I have mixed feelings about this prediction as the love/hate relationship we all have to that company is an integral part of computer history but it seems like a necessity at this point.

It definitely doesn't mean no more criminals and terrorists. It means no more criminals and terrorists who can compete against the government condoned ones. Truly, we're at the cusp of a dystopia never before possible before.

I deleted co-pilot from my MS W11 OS, had no need for it.

I'm a writer and publisher of books on physics, astrophysics, quantum mechanics and more. If they are keylogging the books I write and someone else hacks my computer and publishes my work before I do, then can't MS be sued for not keeping my data safe, allowing my work to be stolen, violating my copyrights?

Damn bots trying to ruin the comment section. Great video on the topic since they are taking Activity History in Windows 10 on steroids! 🤯

Beware: once those features land in Windows nobody could guarantee they won't trigger and use the x86 CPU when the computer is idle as Windows usually does for the regular maintenance, diagnostics, etc. thus don't think on computers without the AI chip one is safe. I guess the first defense against those features is taking ownership of the directories where the features are located, removing permission inheritance, forbidding access to them to the system user and administrator accounts. But then again, Windows has a habit of having multiple versions of a tool (for fallback reasons in case of issues, of course) so these tools could be ran from multiple locations on the computer. Like the Edge itself, doesn't matter how many times I removed it for all the users and configured the computer to never install it again, it still keeps coming back, these features could also keep coming back after removal. Thanks for keeping to raise awareness on all these things.
