You put 99.999 percent of all YouTubers to shame. This video was concise, informative and you helped a whole lot of people that wanted to sharpen their lawn mower blades but didn't no how to.

This is exactly what I do. Those flap disks are great. Very forgiving. Good video.

Simple and easy to follow. This allows any DIY person to understand how to sharpen their own blades without overpaying at the store

Very good presentation of the ABC's of using the angle grinder. Too often presumptions are made that the viewer knows certain basics that are essential to safety and function. You covered the project well.

I use 80 grit. But, one issue that the need to sharpen these blades comes into play is, that many people seem to ignore or choose to not admit to is cutting the grass too short. Mower blades don't get really get that damaged from just cutting the grass. It's the other stuff in or 'on' the lawn that causes the bad nicks and dents. The most obvious is gravel/stone. This gets very real if people have gravel driveways. So if the mower it set too low, the mower is going to pick up small stones. I try not to cut the grass less than 3 inches. Cutting grass short than 3 inches has bad effects on the grass and the mower. It is a simple mindset that I hear all the time. "The grass doesn't look like it's been cut if I don't cut it shorter than 3 inches. So why not cut 3 times a month versus 4 times a month? Less time wasted mower, less wear and tear on the equipment and less fuel used per mowing season.

Great video, thank you for going over the procedure with such degree of precision. Very helpful! For the ones who like to read comments, I would agree with the fact that the balancing step is indeed missing. Please look at other videos too, but this one is by far one of the best for the sharpening part of blade maintenance! Thanks a lot!

I suggest wearing an apron to avoid clothing destruction!
I sharpen blades weekly for our landscaping crew using the flap disc (100 grit) and grinder while putting the blade in a vise.
Usually try to take down the cutting edge if any dings or dents and then put a 30 degree taper. Make sure the cutting edge is not too thin or it will be too weak and not last. Balance the blade with a tapered balancer rather than a nail! Lol

For us Gumbies this is great. I normally use a hand file and vice as that is what my dad taught me. Since I do this one a year I will stick with this, although I would really like a new tool.

O have bern using a dremel with a stone cylinder attached. It's slower but easy to control and gives razor sharp results. Don't forget to balance the blade too.

I like your video. I've never sharpened mine before and that's about to change.

Great video, very informative.
Serious question which way do you turn the nut to take blade off ? Traditional left for loosy?

Great detailed video! Thanks for sharing. I'll be using a flap disc instead of grinding wheel from now on. 👍🏿

Very important to note the direction the wheel is rotating when sharpening blade. Alway from back side(inside) toward sharpening( outside) edge!

Aside from making sure the blade is balanced, i just flip the blade and do a real light edge on the underside, as opposed to the honing stone.

Great video. Remember “RPM” is already plural “Revolutions Per minute.” “RPMs” would be “Revolutions Per Minutes” 😂

Clamping in a nice 4 ich wide vise works well, too.

Great pointers but how long should a blade last if you sharpen it in this manner 4 or 5 times a cutting season. I would use this method on a chipped blade but great tutelage on using a grinder..
