John Hughes is part of the American consciousness—heck, he might be part of the global consciousness. If you were a kid growing up in the 80s and early 90s, he described your adolescence and high school experience—I mean, if you happen to be white, and kind of nerdy, and grew up in the suburbs. So for those of us old enough to remember a time before the American Pie franchise—and even if you aren’t—let’s take a moment to celebrate that teenage touchstone: John Hughes. From Sixteen Candles to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to The Breakfast Club, come along with us to that magical, make-believe town of Shermer, Illinois.

The camera work is always perfect and feels as you are in the movie. Way ahead of its time and still better than most movies today even despite the advances in technology/pixels. Of course the actors, writing, and directing all Great. But the angles, clarity, colors are often an overlooked feature to his films

Is it just me or does nobody make a John Hughes type movie anymore? Family movies that adults and children can both like. Most family movies today suck that only kids like and are unbearable for adults.

In retrospect, I think Home Alone would have turned out better if John Hughes directed it. With Chris Columbus, it's fine, but still.

The Films that were directed from him. John was equivalent to Jean Luc Goddard.
Meaning his films (that he personally directs) adds something new to the usual formula

(Example: Buddy road comedy into an interesting character study. And centering a group of stereotypes, slowly peeling their peers one by one)

How come no one ever talks about how conservative his films are? Seems like something everyone overlooks.

Lame. You left out SOOOO much. You didn’t focus on the teen films which were quintessential to his legacy.
