Whoa you built a house next to the sea and are surprised it's in your house?

There's absolutely nothing you can tell me to convince me to live near water. And in FLORIDA? hurricane happy land? Absolutely never.

They shouldn't even build homes right on the ocean like that. Your house is going to get swept away every year

That is a badly installed sliding glass door. The glass did not break, the entire frame came out, that should not happen.

The dangers of living at sea level. I’m surprised by the number of people who are shocked and surprised that such a thing could happen! Who could have imagined something like this?

Who would live that close to the water?

They own a house on a barrier island. It should be removed along with the sea wall and a mangrove swamp installed. Of course it will never happen because the government loves the tax revenue. Rich people get what they pay for. The insurance for this house should be 20 times it's value every month.

There is a reason the bottom floors are supposed to be knock away walls.

So happy they can clean up and still live there. Still make more memories.

How come so many people living seaside did not take precaution and move a lot of stuff upstairs? I would have stuffed upstairs with things and brought memories, documents and so on with me. People have left in panic without life saving medicines, photos, birth certificates, passports, business/tax/bank-documents, computers with said documents electronically and so on. One family I know put up sand bags but nothing more. The whole upstairs are fine but ALL of the important stuff healtwise, kids room, office was at bottom level and not one thing was moved upstairs and now gone. Why not just in case bottom level was flooded and upstairs spared, not even bags were packed. Don´t get it.

Not trying to victim blame, but .... SW Florida literally gets hit by somethign EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Like, what are you expecting when you live 10ft away from the water.

Well, I guess if you got plans to rebuild it really wasn't that bad. Stop using taxpayer money to build your little sand castles on the beach and then expect the rest of us to pick up the tab when the insurance rates go up.

Why not move what you care about upstairs into some of the various rooms until the storm passes? TVs, Monitors, Computers etc.

Why wouldn't they board up? I know it may not help save everything, but the structure held up.

If you can see the ocean from your house...
It's a temporary house.
