This is the thing, I actually think the biggest reason to use these devices over Android devices is the fact that it's literally a fully featured desktop that's basically running on a phone body.

I replaced my android smartphone for a flip-phone around mid November. It has made wonders to my productivity and my general mood. I started reading again and going out more. I can concentrate easier on things without the urge of checking the notifications in my phone or wasting 3 hours straight watching yt, reddit, twitter, ig... Doing chores is not a psychological burden anymore. Now I don't procrastinate on every little thing that requires some effort.

In general, not using a phone is not only better for your pricivacy, it also improves your quality of life. Definetely try it out, it might be hard to resist the urge in the beggining, but is absolutely worth it.

Pinephone's bootloader is fully free (u/p-boot), there's open firmware for the coprocessor AND some people already ran mainline linux 5.10 on the *modem*. And of course it supports multiple windows, it's Linux lol (you can install a full phone WM based on dwm, sxmo.) It supports connecting to a dock and using it on a monitor too.
It generally is a work in progress, but looks like it's gonna become great soon.

I love Linux, but there really is no way you can use it if you want to make music.
Even if there are a few good DAWs for linux, the lack of plugin support really ruins it. A lot of audio engineers, me included, would love to use a linux distro as their daily driver but can't because of poor audio plugin support.

The hardest part with the Linux alt os’s is going to be push notifications. APN and Firebase (android) both maintain longstanding MQTT connections to their fixed servers. If an app developer like Facebook or any real company wanted to support a third platform, they aren’t going to want to have to target 100 different custom push services, once that’s solved it will be a technical no brainer to port react native over and make it run

Also I think in PinePhone also has physical switches to turn off the modems, mics etc. Its under the back cover so you need to remove it to get to it.

Whats awesome on PinePhone is the pogo pins that they expose so that people could extend the functionality by adding say physical keyboards, game pads, batteries etc. For me its a better packaged raspberry pi :)

Not enough people make videos on linux smartphones, hopefully enough people start at least discussing it so that it can become reasonably practical to have a free (as in freedom) mobile device. One of the biggest challenges will be going against the ecosystem monopolies that Apple and Google currently have. Not many people I know will be willing to give up their convenience for freedom, so linux phones will have to be made a trendy option somehow. This is the same with most free (as in freedom) software and hardware.
