" _The jump always feels scary, and often, the landing is amazing_ "

Memorable line.

I've only recently discovered you but quickly got hooked. I like the sarcasm/attitude, the knowledge you share, the insights, it's like that one senior dev that doesn't ignore the intern haha

Waiting for the “How I write in Neovim (as an ex-Netflix engineer)”

Thanks. I found through you wisdom not only in software engineering space, but also, especially, in life. You helped me, and others, a ton. We appreciate your effors and will support you no matter what. Thank you.

Overheard at the coffee machine:
"What's his name, the 'raw dog' potty-mouthed engineer quit."
"He was gifted, but I won't miss that mouth."

What you mentioned about the jump reminded me of this quote: “Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” - Jack Canfield. Good luck.

Bro in his "FAANG to Influencer" arc, but as always, "those without their hands dirty are wrong, doing something makes you right".

Thank you for all you do! Watching your videos and stream has really brought out a lot of joy for me to pursue computer science, and truly enjoy studying it in college. I can't wait to see where the future takes you!

This is crazy, I remember starting to watch your videos just after I graduated with my Masters in August last year, no jobs lined up, running out of savings to pay rent, and praying that I would find any opportunity (Aus tech market is horrendous, a lot of people I graduated with haven't found anything yet)...now I'm 5 months into a role (only casual, and only 15-20 hours a week) but having some semblance of stability and actually doing something with all the things I learned at uni.

Thanks for doing what you do, and good luck in your future endeavours!

I find it so crazy that I started watching you in the middle of last year, hating my job and wanting more tech skills, and you got me in to Rust and I started learning even more about engineering and committed to upskilling. Now I just got hired for a brand new job and I'm moving out to Silicon Valley, and you're quitting you FAANG job to do this full time.

You love to see it.

"I told my boss I was quitting. He was extremely supportive."

That happened to me once, too. Nothing makes you wonder who quit who when a boss is excited to see you go.

Good luck on your next adventure! I started a company on Dec 31, 2019–in hindsight not the best time to jump ship and try to start something from the ground up. It was a scary time for me too. You're lucky to have somebody to share that journey with and she sounds amazing. Best wishes for you and yours!

Finally you can focus on the real things that matter, hot tub streams.

TLDR;
"I do not work at Netflix btw"

I feel happy, sad and proud for you at the same time.

I started watching your videos because "a guy at Netflix makes some very intriguing videos", then I noticed that because of your videos I became more knowledgeable and understood things a bit better. Then your work at Netflix and the stories you occasionally shared was something that had me in awe.

After watching your videos from the all your channels I know that you do some great work and pour your all into those videos, I 'm very happy that you will continue down this path and I wish you all the luck. I'd be sad myself to leave such a colorful job as the one you've described thought, but you do you!

keep up the great work!

I am so excited to see where this goes. You are so inspiring and so fun to watch. I wish you all the best in this journey.

to me you were never the netflix guy, you're the guy that said "i can do it faster" when looking at the source code of left-pad and then getting absolutely smoked in the JS benchmark. love ya
