What if Your Mobo’s BIOS Isn’t Updated for Your CPU?

Actual Pro advice you were looking for is: buy a mobo with ability to flash new bios without the need to have a cpu installed. Just stick a flash drive in usb port after downloading new bios onto it.

Get whatever motherboard you can afford. As long as it has a BIOS flashback feature, you don't have to worry about BIOS updates. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube of how to update the BIOS using the flashback button. It's a simple 5-minute process.

If you get this warning, make sure the motherboard have a BIOS flashback, so you can update the BIOS, even without being connected to anything but the power.

BIOS Flashbacks are super useful and all mobos should have it.

Manufacturers also update their ram compatibility sometimes so it’s a good idea to update bios if you can’t get your ram to run stable at advertised speeds. For my first build I ran my ram at stock settings for YEARS until I updated bios and suddenly it was stable with xmp enabled

I actually recommend picking whatever motherboard suits you best instead of avoiding doing a bios update. It's a nice learning curve if you need to do it, my First PC build actually needed a bios flash, and now if I ever wanna update my bios in the future again, I know how to

I had this situation, cost me like 25$ to fix at a local PC repair station. They just put lower gen processor, updated bios on that one, put my processor back in, and that's it. Easy fix, if You have a lower gen processor lying around.

Yeah. Had the same problem a year ago. I thought the cpu was faulty (as the site I bought it from was a bit sketchy), so I returned it.
After that, I bought a better one from Amazon, but I had the same black screen :))) Fortunately, there were instructions telling me to update the bios (the other didn't have tho), so I just did that and now it works wonderfully.
I don't regret returning the other one.

The thing is there's a ton of combos compatible only after the update, oh and sometimes even if it was compatible from the start you'll still need to update for many reasons. So don't ley people make you think it's a big deal, it usually takes like 5-10 minutes of update and in exchange you'll access many more affordable combos

Speaking of which, a couple of motherboards recently released some pretty decent updates regarding high capacity ddr5, go get it if you haven’t already and crank those speeds up a lil more if you can

Example of this is msi mpg b550 gaming plus which requires bios update for 5000 series. Although it comes with a by flash bios button which makes it much ezier to update ur bios using flash drive

There's a second hand chain in the UK (and probably other places now) called CEX. Yes, I know. But I'll usually just buy the cheapest CPU from them for that socket, and hang onto it as a spare or as my BIOS Update CPU. I kept a hold of an Athlon 200GE for the longest time for that reason, when AM4 Bios updates where a huge deal.

To be fair modern mobo's make the whole process pretty stright forward for the end user with things like dual bios, flashback and qflash.

I had this issue yesterday when making a new build, for me it was DRAM, bought a new motherboard and as it got delivered I just updated the motherboard for the first one, works like a charm now…

With most modern mobos they have a q-flash or similar function which allows you to update the bios via a USB drive and a button on the back.
