I’m 29, and trust me, that whole I’ll do it later, I’ll think about it, I’ll research, I’ll save up, can and will turn into many years later still living home. It even makes you resent your family for not pushing you to get your own place or if they always advised you to stay and save or stay to help them with rent. Remember this, nobody will help you get your freedom or fulfillment. Your future is in your hands.

My 24 year old twin sons just got an apartment. I encouraged them to stay another year to save money, but they wanted to be independent. I was wrong. They were right. It has been great to see them blossom and they still pop in for a visit, and we call and text. Part of being a successful parent is raising kids that are able to stand on their own.

He sounds like me... Depressed with no direction and motivation in life. Poor guy I know how it feels.

From experience, I would not recommend friends as roommates as this can sometimes destroy relationships.

I’ve been looking for homes in my area and a house that sold for 165k in 2015 is now selling for 235k, a 42% increase. My wages haven’t went up 42%. This doesn’t include the increased rates of insurance, groceries, fuel, internet etc. Don’t tell me to work harder. I have a bachelors degree, full time job and a part time job. American Dream is over.

Just moved out and paying $1100 for a decent studio. It sucks to pay so much for housing but dang it feels good to have your own place and do and have things the way YOU want.

Roommates are terrible - I'd go back to the one bedroom in the ghetto before I'd do roommates again.

I would rather look for a studio apartment than live with roommates.

Not everybody wants to live with a stranger.. some of us do cherish our privacy

Roommates ?? That defeats the purpose because he already has roommates in his parents

It's too expensive for anything right now.

27$ at 40 hours a week makes 1080$, the average price for the smallest studio is 1200-1500$ then 4times the income to even get in, there are maybe 10 apartments available in a state each day while thousands are looking a day, there is no opportunity for young people

investing requires good experience and knowledge to carry out a good and successful trade, I have lost a lot trying to trade all by myself May I ask which investments are good?

Americans better get use to the term "multi generational housing."

I lived with family until I was 24, which during that time I saved money for a downpayment on a home. So I believe it's a more about being intentional than just throwing your kids into the wild with no money to learn live is rough.

Don't move out. SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!! Once you have enough. Put down a down payment and have an emergency and monthly money saved

Personally speaking, having lived at home as an adult, with roommates, and on my own, I think if you have a good relationship with your parents, just stay home. It's important that you develop independence and contribute to the household, but this idea that it's somehow considered better to be living with random people you don't know and can't stand over living with people who love and support you is completely ridiculous. It's an American construct that living with your family as adult is bad. In many countries, living with family until marriage is the norm, not the exception.

to roomates!!! You have to try your HARDEST to do it alone. Roomates open a whole slew of issues. And if someone moves out.. you're left paying everything by yourself. Or when everyhting is splilt and someone says "I didn't use $100 of electricity, I"m not paying it" then you have to pay it because you need electricity. Just watch Judge Judy for 10 minutes and you'll see a slew of cases for this exact scenario.
I FULLY agree with the "elderly old lady" and the apt. above the garage. that's a win-win. I know someone who lived in his mobile home on a woman's property for almost 10 years.. He fixed most everything in her house, watched the dogs when she was away, paid the electric for her, did all the yard work. He was saving up to buy a house, which he did a few years ago. Granted he wasn't 22 but it will worked out. He still does her yardwork for her too.
