Writing your response to the Long Essay Question (LEQ) requires you to know the rubric well, which is to say, you need to understand how the readers are going to be evaluating your writing. And that's Heimler's aim in this video: plan a LEQ for maximum points as they are laid out on the rubric.

does the contextualization have to be that specific? like can you just say "columbus first discovered the west leading to the columbian exchange, kings and queens funded the trade, europeans saw the americas as an oppurtunity because of good agriculture" etc

For a prompt like this, wouldn’t your thesis formula not hold up bc its not an “evaluate the extent to which the Columbian exchange...” question, but “ evaluate how the Columbian exchange” question? In other words isn’t it just asking you to list several examples of HOW the columbian exhange affected peoples of the americas, not HOW MUCH? Thank you for you’re help btw!!
