Hi All! Today we are taking a deep dive into Julie and Julia Julie & Julia is a 2009 American biographical comedy-drama film written and directed by Nora Ephron starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child's cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog, which made her a published author.

Ephron's screenplay is based on two books: My Life in France, Child's autobiography written with Alex Prud'homme, and a memoir by Powell, Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen (later retitled Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously). Both of these books were written and published between 2004 and 2006. Powell's book was based on her blog The Julie/Julia Project,[3] where she documented online her daily experiences cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child's 1961 cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The film is the first major motion picture based on a blog.

In March 2008, Ephron began filming with Streep as Child and Adams as Powell. On July 30, 2009, the film officially premiered at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York; and, on August 7, 2009, it opened throughout North America. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised Streep's performance. Streep and Adams previously starred together in Doubt (2008). Streep and Tucci previously starred together in The Devil Wears Prada (2006).

Julie & Julia was Ephron's last film before her death in 2012.

Loooove this movie! Merrill Streep should have won the Oscar…it certainly hit a note in many! Who doesn’t love a good bruschetta!? And yes what a final tribute to Nora Ephron! Have you read her book / memoir — I feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts On Being a Woman. Good read. Such an iconic screen writer - and director!

I've had a crush on Stanley Tucci since he was in the TV series "Murder One" and everything else he's done since. I especially loved how sweetly he played Paul.

This is one of my favorite movies! It's brilliantly written. The two stories parallel perfectly. But...I always warn people that if they love the movie, they shouldn't read Julie's book (DO, however, read Julia's book--she's s delightful). Especially, avoid Julie's follow-up book. Neither of Julie's books will make you like Julie. I would much rather enjoy the lovely, though slightly self-centered, version of Julie portrayed by Amy Adams.

Beef bourguignon is a very time-consuming & complex dish, but delicious to make for special occasions.

About the boeuf bourgignon - I think we would come closer to the French pronunciation if the pronounced the oeu like the u in burn. All through the movie I tried to find the meaning behind even "Julia Child" misspronouncing it, until I watched the behind the scenes part and Ephron said none of them could pronounce it.

Hello another tall woman (I'm 6')...I loved that Julia is taller than Paul. Ive never cared about my partners heights....but I've been told my height has been an issue for them. :(

I really enjoyed this movie, too ...very cool. A movie for foodies, and an homage to Julia Child. So refreshing among the usual rom-com drivel.
My one issue is the remark made by Julie's boss when she called out sick because an important person was coming to dinner and she ruined it while preparing it the night before.
Upon return to work her boss remarked, "A Republican would have fired you".
So not true.. That remark wasn't funny and didn't add anything to the story.... Just a gratuitous jab. Decided not to buy the DVD based on that, ha! I will watch it again for free....but, will not spend money on it. (Good going, Nora Ephron, with insulting half the audience with that line.) But, overall, a charming film.
